Welcome to the spooky weekend. It’s not all ghosts and goblins this weekend. Get your LA Phil on or take a cooking class with Taste of Pace in DTLA, celebrate Oktoberfest, head to the family friendly Farmer’s Market Fall Festival, get Tipsy with Tapas or laugh it up at Festival Supreme in Santa Monica, and enjoy great food and fine wine in Malibu at The Food Event. Get Your Phil – Dinner & Concert Packages

The Los Angeles Philharmonic is partnering with some of Downtown LA’s best restaurants for the launch of their Get Your Phil program: a specially crafted prix fixe dinner for only $32 per person (including tax/tip, doesn’t include alcoholic beverages), followed by a wonderful concert (some packages start at a bargain rate of $50 per person) at Walt Disney Concert Hall. At dinner, guests will also enjoy an insightful presentation about the concert by a special guest and a member from the LA Phil. First up, Chaya Downtown with Salonen conducting Debussy & Bartók. Upcoming restaurants include Border Grill, Le Ka, First & Hope, and Blue Cow.

The Purge

Blumhouse Productions – the company behind such terrifying films as the Paranormal Activity franchises, Sinister, Insidious and last year’s Blumhouse of Horrors – invites you to take part in a horror-theater experience unlike any you’ve ever seen. The 2-3 hour experience immersive performance plunges you into the terrifying world envisioned in The Purge, where for one horrific night each year, all crime is legal. Halloween Harvest Festival

Check out the Halloween Harvest Festival at Pierce College right off the 101 in Woodland Hills. Leave your car at home and take the Orange line to the De soto Metro stop. Plus, your metro ticket gets you free admission! Through November 3, explore a corn maze, brave the haunted house, enjoy hay rides and more. If that sounds too kid friendly for you, the place takes on a special sinister quality after dark.

Rob Zombie’s Great American Nightmare

Rob Zombie’s Great American Nightmare is the ultimate Halloween music and horror event, showcasing three terrifying haunted houses; Lords Of Salem In Total Black Out, The Haunted World Of El Superbeasto 3D, and Haunt Of 1,000 Corpses! This horrifying event will be taking place Thursday-Sunday nights from Oct. 10th – Nov. 2nd at the LA County FEARplex in Pomona, featuring concerts from various artists each night. Get ready for the NIGHTMARE of your life!

Festival Supreme

It’s the ultimate comedy and music festival taking place on the Santa Monica Pier. Organized by Jack Black and his Tenacious D bandmate Kyle Gass, the three-stage event, dubbed Festival Supreme, will feature sets by 30 luminaries of the comic universe. Performers include Sarah Silverman, Zach Galifianakis, Adam Sandler, Eric Idle & The Jeff Davis Experience, Fred Armisen, Will Forte, Demetri Martin, Craig Robinson & the Nasty Delicious, Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, Garfunkel & Oates, Patton Oswalt and finishing it up, Tenacious D! Tickets start at $99, this event is 21 and over only.

Farmer’s Market Fall Festival
Los Angeles (SAT & SUN)

The annual Fall Festival celebration at the Farmer’s Market (3rd & Fairfax) returns featuring The Great American Petting Zoo, Agventure Land, pie-eating contests, tons of great music and more! And, new this year, barnyard puppet shows, pony rides and Artisan Alley. The sounds of banjo, country, bluegrass and western swing will fill the air throughout the weekend. Taste of Pace Fall Cooking Class

Technique, technique, technique. Good cooking is all about matching ingredients with the perfect cooking techniques. Learn the secrets at TOP Farm to Table Cooking Classes. Sample dishes include items like pumpkin gnudi, brown butter, fried sage; salt crusted hanger steak duck fat roasted fingerlings, paprika aioli, parsley; and creamy caper anchovy lemon vinaigrette, mixed bitter greens, radishes, crouton, shaved parmesan. Celebrate Oktoberfest with Angel City Brewery and the LA Derby Dolls. The Derby Girls will be at Angel City Brewery to preside over the ceremonial tapping of the brewery’s Oktoberfest beer at 12:30pm with Brewer Dieter Foerstner. Then the party continues with a Derby Girl photo booth. Ping pong, darts, corn hole and ladder toss competitions will be taking place all day. There will be live music by RT N’ the 44’s, great food from the Currywurst food truck and of course, there will be plenty of beer flowing.

Atwater Village Oktoberfest

Join Link n Hops for their first annual Oktoberfest as they celebrate the fall season with craft beer and great food for two days in Atwater Village. Sip on a variety of seasonal specialty beers by four amazing breweries and munch on a savory sausage with Belgian fries. Each brewery will feature Oktoberfest- or Fall-inspired specialty beers like Pumpkin and amber ales. The breweries involved include Bootleggers, Hangar 24, New Belgium, and Golden Road. Pumpkin Liner

A truly unique Halloween experience can be had at the Filmore & Western Railway Co. Starting Oct 3rd, take a train ride on the Pumpkin Liner for $20 (kids for $12). Start at the Filmore train station, ride out to a pumpkin patch, eat some tasty BBQ, traverse the haunted hay maze, and browse the arts and crafts booths.

Faulkner Farm Pumpkin Patch

Happening weekends through Oct 27, Faulkner Farm Pumpkin Patch is the place to find the perfect pumpkin in their acres of bright orange gourds. Los Angeles Haunted Hay Ride

In the 1920’s, King Gillette was known for hosting the most prestigious parties in all of Los Angeles County on his sprawling 500 acre ranch. On the night of the last ball ever witnessed on the ranch, the inmates from a local asylum escaped and invaded the ball. Tipsy Tapitas

Chef Sandra Cordero from the pop-up Cordero Negro and mixologist Kim Stodel from Bar Chloe present Tipsy Tapitas, a 16-course tapas tasting for two nights only, Oct. 20 and 21. The menu includes such tapitas as olive tostada with pisto and quail egg, roasted cauliflower and saffron soup, croquetas, Swiss chard stuffed with morcilla sausage, mini lamb burger on a pretzel bun with saffron aioli, chocolate ganache cake, homemade turron and Night Owl espresso ice cream. Sodel will pair cocktails such as the Chloe Crisp (fresh muddled serrano, cucumber, basil, tequila, agave and lime) and El Viejito (jamon-infused apple brandy, Angostura bitters, orange and lemon twist). Tickets are $65 per person.

Los Angeles magazine’s The Food Event 2013

Los Angeles magazine’s “The Food Event 2013,” marks the eighth annual culinary extravaganza for the nationally recognized media brand. This is the Natural History Family’s second collaboration with Chalk Repertory Theatre. Each night features four short original comedies and dramas by L.A. writers, set from 1913 to today. Audience members will be divided into four groups to be led through the full play cycle, before meeting in the main foyer for cocktail hour at the end of the show. $20 Members; $25 Nonmembers.

LA Derby Dolls

The L.A. Derby Dolls are Southern California’s premiere all-female, banked track roller derby league. Watch girls on wheels as they battle out on the track with two teams of five players each: four blockers (one of whom wears a striped helmet cover as the “pivot”) and one jammer. The restaurant’s signature program provides an opportunity for meat lovers to sample, compare, and explore different cuts and aging techniques through an intimate interactive approach guides by Executive Chef Logan. Once again recognizing the importance of pairings, carefully selected wines will be offered to attendees of the culinary educational evening.

October 27 – The L.A. Sriracha Festival is a chef-driven, all-inclusive, 21+ event from The Sriracha Cookbook + Food GPS that spotlights the world’s most iconic hot sauce. Enjoy a variety of Sriracha themed dishes, including dessert. Local craft beer, cocktails, and sodas help tame the heat. The L.A. Sriracha Festiaval also supports a good cause, Food Forward.

November 1-2 – Westchester’s favorite new watering hole Cinco, is channeling its Oaxacan roots with the ultimate boo-zy Dia de Los Muertos (“Day of the Dead”) celebration. In addition to drink specials, the festivities to honor the deceased will include traditional mole negro plates, an altar that will be up all week for guests to pay tribute to their loved ones with photographs and sweets, and a live Mariachi Band on Saturday afternoon from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

November 2-3 – Temecula Valley wine country invites locals and visitors alike to celebrate this year’s wine grape harvest at the region’s Harvest Celebration Barrel Tasting Weekend. This fall passport event is the last chance of the year to explore more than 30 wineries, sample new and unfinished wines, enjoy delicious food pairings, and experience the beauty of wine country in autumn – all in one weekend. A two-day ticket runs $99, Sunday only is $79. Food only for the designated drivers is $69.

November 2 – Dia de los Muertos at Hollywood Forever is a must see event. Partake in various sacred ceremonial tributes and memorable altar creations with a vibrant traditional procession in the home of Hollywood’s Immortals. There is tons of food, 3 music stages, many themed parades around the cemetery, vendors of all kinds of Day of the Dead items and an altar contest, not to mention a lot of great costumes. Admission is $15 and the event is from Noon-12am. Lines are guaranteed, so get there as early as you can.

November 7 – After four years and thousands of lobster rolls served, Tasting Table is ready to take its marquee culinary event, the NYC Lobster Roll Rumble, on the road. That’s right, it’s coming to LA. You can vote for your favorite roll from ten of the best seafood slingers along the Pacific coastline, who will try to claw their way to the top: L&E Oyster Bar (L.A.), The Hungry Cat (L.A.), Blue Plate Oysterette (L.A.), Littlefork (L.A.), The Strand House (L.A.), Cousins Maine Lobster (L.A.), Anchor & Hope (S.F.), Sam’s Chowder House (Half Moon Bay) and Old Port Lobster Shack (Redwood City)–plus a specialty roll from Chobani.
