If that sounds too kid friendly for you, the place takes on a special sinister quality after dark.
Rob Zombie’s Great American Nightmare

Rob Zombie’s Great American Nightmare is the ultimate Halloween music and horror event, showcasing three terrifying haunted houses; Lords Of Salem In Total Black Out, The Haunted World Of El Superbeasto 3D, and Haunt Of 1,000 Corpses! This horrifying event will be taking place Thursday-Sunday nights from Oct. 10th – Nov. 2nd at the LA County FEARplex in Pomona, featuring concerts from various artists each night. This is the Natural History Family’s second collaboration with Chalk Repertory Theatre. Each night features four short original comedies and dramas by L.A. writers, set from 1913 to today. Audience members will be divided into four groups to be led through the full play cycle, before meeting in the main foyer for cocktail hour at the end of the show. $20 Members; $25 Nonmembers.

LA Derby Dolls

The L.A. Derby Dolls are Southern California’s premiere all-female, banked track roller derby league. Watch girls on wheels as they battle out on the track with two teams of five players each: four blockers (one of whom wears a striped helmet cover as the “pivot”) and one jammer. Each brewery will feature Oktoberfest- or Fall-inspired specialty beers like Pumpkin and amber ales. The breweries involved include Bootleggers, Hangar 24, New Belgium, and Golden Road. October 19 – Celebrate Oktoberfest with Angel City Brewery and the LA Derby Dolls. The Derby Girls will be at Angel City Brewery to preside over the ceremonial tapping of the brewery’s Oktoberfest beer at 12:30pm with Brewer Dieter Foerstner. Then the party continues with a Derby Girl photo booth. Ping pong, darts, corn hole and ladder toss competitions will be taking place all day. There will be live music by RT N’ the 44’s, great food from the Currywurst food truck and of course, there will be plenty of beer flowing.
October 20 – Los Angeles magazine’s “The Food Event 2013,” marks the eighth annual culinary extravaganza for the nationally recognized media brand. The afternoon fete features great chefs, cooking demos, sommeliers, unlimited food from 40 restaurants, wine, spirits and other treats, all for one price. Tickets are $120.

October 25 – School is officially back in session with the commencement of Nick + Stef’s popular Meat 101 series. The restaurant’s signature program provides an opportunity for meat lovers to sample, compare, and explore different cuts and aging techniques through an intimate interactive approach guides by Executive Chef Logan. Once again recognizing the importance of pairings, carefully selected wines will be offered to attendees of the culinary educational evening.
November 2 – Dia de los Muertos at Hollywood Forever is a must see event. Partake in various sacred ceremonial tributes and memorable altar creations with a vibrant traditional procession in the home of Hollywood’s Immortals. There is tons of food, 3 music stages, many themed parades around the cemetery, vendors of all kinds of Day of the Dead items and an altar contest, not to mention a lot of great costumes. Admission is $15 and the event is from Noon-12am. Lines are guaranteed, so get there as early as you can.
November 7 – After four years and thousands of lobster rolls served, Tasting Table is ready to take its marquee culinary event, the NYC Lobster Roll Rumble, on the road. That’s right, it’s coming to LA. You can vote for your favorite roll from ten of the best seafood slingers along the Pacific coastline, who will try to claw their way to the top: L&E Oyster Bar (L.A.), The Hungry Cat (L.A.), Blue Plate Oysterette (L.A.), Littlefork (L.A.), The Strand House (L.A.), Cousins Maine Lobster (L.A.), Anchor & Hope (S.F.), Sam’s Chowder House (Half Moon Bay) and Old Port Lobster Shack (Redwood City)–plus a specialty roll from Chobani.
