Is the last weekend of Summer. When someone asks, what did you do this summer? Don’t say, ummm… nothing. Eat ice-cream and drink beer in Eagle Rock, catch an outdoor flick, head to the LA County Fair, go wine tasting in Temecula, help clean up the coast, or take flight with Red Bull. At the very least enjoy some good eats and good drinks. After all, you’re free to be who you choose, to get your booze, any old time.

Movie night at Malibu and Vine

They are screening the Bill Murray classic, Caddyshack at Malibu and Vine on Friday night! There will be food available for purchase and of course wine (one bottle min purchase per group). Movie starts at 7:30pm, 21 and over only.

LA County Fair

It’s that time of the year again. Time for deep fried goodies galore, grilled corn on the cob, horse races, farm animals, live music, award winning beer & wine, rides & carnival games, and as much gadget shopping as you can handle. It’s hard to imagine all that, wrapped up in a single day of fun. Which is why the LA County Fair is worth a visit, maybe two or three. And why not, a season pass is just $29.99. Single day tickets are just $10. The fun goes until September 29.

This Saturday in Long Beach, Red Bull’s First National Flugtag 2013 will host the only competition on the planet where you can watch inventors from across the country test out their weirder-than-weird flying contraptions. Hangars open at 10:00am, the first flight at noon. Admission is free.

LA Beer Week

It’s time to celebrate all things beer in Los Angeles. With LA Beer Week taking place from September 19 – 29. It’s a collection of beer-centric events located through LA and the OC. With it’s kick off gala event taking place on Sept 22 at Union Station. This event features unlimited sampling from over 50 breweries in the beautiful, iconic art deco ticketing hall in LA’s famous Union Station. For your comfort, the even has been moved indoors with a limit of 600 tickets for sale. Tickets are $70 and can be found here.

The Butterfly Pavilion
Downtown Los Angeles
The Butterfly Pavilion, the living habitat where hundreds of butterflies flutter among nectaring plants, returns for its 15th year at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. This year, in addition to hosting its usual far-flung travelers from across North America, the Pavilion will also have a distinctive California feel. Of the 53 species of butterflies, 20 will be native to the Golden State.

LA Derby Dolls

The L.A. Derby Dolls are Southern California’s premiere all-female, banked track roller derby league. September 27 – The Natural History Museum is screening Chinatown in the Garland Amphitheater to mark the 100th anniversary of the Los Angeles Aqueduct. Bring your picnics or enjoy food trucks. There will be a brief panel discussion moderated by David Ulin, book critic of the Los Angeles Times, with Professor William Deverell, Sandra Tsing Loh, and Christine Mulholland as they talk about the fascinating mixture of fact and fiction in Roman Polanski’s iconic look at greed, power, lust, and the rise of modern Los Angeles. Panel discussion begins at 6:30 pm; film begins at 7 pm.

September 27-29 - The San Gennaro Foundation kicks off October’s Italian Heritage Month, a celebration of everything it means to be Italian, with their annual street festival, The Galbani® Cheese Italian Feast of San Gennaro, Los Angeles. Inspired by the 80+ year old New York City tradition, the Feast celebrates Italian culture, entertainment and cuisine, and will feature great food, music, genealogy research, kid’s corner, bocce, bingo, carnival rides, games and more. Surprise celebrity guests will join the cooking team, as they demonstrate Italian recipes on the Galbani® Cheese La Cucina Italiana Cooking Stage with special guest, Galbani® Cheese’s very own Chef Marco. A Procession of St. Gennaro on Hollywood Blvd. will begin at noon on Saturday, September 28th and conclude with a Mass on the Main Stage presided by Monsignor Antonio Cacciapuoti. September 28 – Join hosts Suzanne Goin, Caroline Styne and David Lentz as well as more than 30 of the top chefs and mixologists from across the country as they serve up tastings to raise funds for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation and the fight against childhood cancer. Each chef and mixologist prepares a signature dish for guests to sample. Guests have the opportunity to stroll the lawn of the historic Culver Studios Mansion, tasting incredible fare and meeting and even chatting with the chefs who prepared it. L.A. October 21-22 – Join Link N Hops for their first annual Oktoberfest as they celebrate the fall season with craft beer and great food for two days in Atwater Village. Sip on a variety of seasonal specialty beers by four amazing breweries and munch on a savory sausage with Belgian fries. Each brewery will feature three brews that are an Oktoberfest- or Fall-inspired specialty beers, like Pumpkin and amber ales. November 7 – After four years and thousands of lobster rolls served, Tasting Table is ready to take its marquee culinary event, the NYC Lobster Roll Rumble, on the road. That’s right, it’s coming to LA.
