It’s that time of the year again. Beer Is Art is Special L.A. Beer Week Tie-In Show taking place at the La Luz De Jesus gallery in Hollywood. We’ve all doodled on beer coasters, but most of us aren’t the extremely skilled painters, illustrators, animators, tattooists, sculptors or collage artists that are featured in this exhibition that takes a love of craft brewing and elevates it to high art. The folks behind L.A. Beer Week have produced a custom canvas for some of their favorite gallery folks to do what they do best, and transform a 4? tondo coaster into museum worthy exhibition pieces. The opening gala event will feature a selection of fine micro brews too.

It’s all about the craft beer movement and celebrating great beer at the California Beer Festival in San Dimas. Masses of beer aficionados and enthusiasts will flock to Frank G. BonelliPark on September 7th, 12:30pm-5:00pm, to savor the aroma and taste of a multitude of craft beers and brews from award winning brewing companies such as Karl Strauss and Lagunitas Brewery. With delicious food options and over 70 craft beers on tap, bellies and palates are sure to be satisfied. The festival will also feature live entertainment including popular local bands and themed activities like Bikini Bocce Ball. It’s closing night of the Helmut Newton photo exhibit entitled White Women • Sleepless Nights • Big Nudes. The show taking place at the Annenberg Space for Photography, features the work of the revolutionary fashion photog. His photos are powerful and controversial, making this a must-see exhibit before it leaves.

The Butterfly Pavilion, the living habitat where hundreds of butterflies flutter among nectaring plants, returns for its 15th year at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. This year, in addition to hosting its usual far-flung travelers from across North America, the Pavilion will also have a distinctive California feel. Of the 53 species of butterflies, 20 will be native to the Golden State.

LA Derby Dolls

The L.A. Derby Dolls are Southern California’s premiere all-female, banked track roller derby league. Watch girls on wheels as they battle out on the track with two teams of five players each: four blockers (one of whom wears a striped helmet cover as the “pivot”) and one jammer. Sept 19 – It’s time to celebrate all things beer in Los Angeles. With LA Beer Week taking place from September 19 – 29. It’s a collection of beer-centric events located through LA and the OC. With it’s kick off gala event taking place on Sept 22 at Union Station. This event features unlimited sampling from over 50 breweries in the beautiful, iconic art deco ticketing hall in LA’s famous Union Station.
