There are talks of proposed e cigarette ban and also application by various health personnel for putting restrictions e cigarette sale are being sent to various health organizations. While an overall e cig ban is not something that is likely to happen but many city council members have jointly imposed temporary bans on issuing license to e cigarette retailers.
The rising concern is seemingly due to concern among authorities as e cigarette being accessible to minors as retail stores display means e cigarette is all in open for public view. Authorities want e cigarette to be displayed only to a customer of legal age hence the concern about retail stores. But the fact that FDA showed intent of banning online sales clearly leaves e cigarette makers with no options, most of the users even otherwise buy e cigarette online but banning retail stores may still not resolve the main issue which is stopping minors from buying e cigarette.
There are countries like Canada, New York and a few others which ban e cigarettes to be imported but in the past few months even city councils of countries where a nationwide ban does not exist till now have imposed temporary ban on issuing license for e cigarette retail stores.
Electronic Cigarette Ban
The first was Seal Beach city council which initially approved a 45 day ban but now it has extended the ban to 10 month 15 days saying that more time in needed to think over e cigarette as it is a relatively new industry and the pros and cons are not really known.
Jim Basham, Seal beach’s city council says,” The extension of the ordinance will grant staff extra time to analyze whether or not electronic cigarettes should be analyzed based upon the type of classification of zoning designations in our city, whether or not location provisions should be introduced in regards to how close this type of business would be to a school or a playground”. This proposal is said to have got 4-1 approval from present members.
Now Paul Koretz, council men, LA city council is also set to start a motion to put a moratorium on e cigarette retail store license approval with an intention to stop public view of e cigarette and its product to minors and restrict the use of e cigarette which should ideally be used by people only above the age of 18.The proposal is intended to make electronic cigarette for sale on retail stores to be off limit to minors. This is however open for debate and interpretation as no decision has been made as of now.
These movements according to the grapevine got set fired to by the growing number of investors and retailers wanting to get a license to trade e cigarette in retail stores. Also recently a few electronic cigarette stores were found to be selling banned nicotine e cig liquid which was unlabeled and the constituent or warning was not displayed on the e cig liquid refills found. To avoid such a situation it becomes important to find reliable source to buy electronic cigarettes and related products like e liquid and cartridges etc.
E cigarette industry insider’s feel that this is even more interesting as CASAA even earlier stated that New York City is fighting a silent war against e cigarette as there have been repeated attempts at restricting e cigarette sale. Most e cigarette users are miffed with the fact that while tobacco and some flavored tobacco cigarette being sold from years this sudden crusade against banning flavored e cigarettes and banning online sales seems abrupt. Ban on electronic cigarette stores is again a move which is not going down noticed as e cigarette users seem fused to speak for a product they are opting for as an alternate to tobacco.
