Independent publishers make big things happen with small staffs and marketing budgets. The Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA) supports independent publishers by offering marketing guidance, deals and discounts, as well as progressional development training. They also sponsor the annual Benjamin Franklin Awards that honor excellence in editorial as well as design. The 2014 honorees were announced on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 in New York City.

“We have an extremely strong group of honorees this year,” said IBPA Executive Director, Angela Bole. “We received nearly 1,300 entries into the program. The 154 titles selected as honorees are truly the best of the best.” Contributors to this year’s list of honorees included the 39th U.S. president Jimmy Carter, actor Jim Carrey, musician Art Garfunkel, and author Garrison Keillor.

The award program includes fifty-two categories. Gold medalists receive a gold seal to use in marketing, on their web sites,  and to place on their print book covers. Silver honorees receive silver seals. If you’re an independent author or publisher and you missed the award ceremony, there’s always next year. IBPA will begin accepting submissions for the 2015 awards program in July 2014.

Below is a list of the honored titles, by category. The list includes publsihers’ info and ISBN numbers.
