The Jail
-

The jail is a continuation of the Barracks in terms of scenery and tactics. There are also iron bars which will impede everything but Teleport or the Barbarian's Leap and Leap Attack skills. This can be a boon if your opponents are melee based, but those enemies who have ranged attacks may find this to be more of a problem than assistance.

If you have the expansion pack installed, you can take your rogue Hireling with you to Act 2. At this stage in the game, however, many players choose to hire a new mercenary from Griez. While the rogue can be a viable hireling, they often require specialized equipment that is rarely available to a character this early in the game. The Desert Mercenary tends to be the more popular choice. In spite of being a melee-oriented minion, he does more damage, is more durable and can also activate his own paladin aura based on his type. While many choose the Combat Hireling which has a Prayer aura, the Defensive Hireling may also be of use with his Defiance aura. If you prefer using the rogue, however, you can always hire one again if you should choose to do so.

Be sure to check the vendors once in a while as they may be selling gear which may be better than what they are equipped with. Just as with the rogue, keeping him well maintained and giving him healing potions when he's wounded badly enough will make them very helpful.

Once you’re ready to continue your pursuit of Diablo, the first quest would be a good start as the reward is another skill point. You are tasked to kill Radament the Fallen who can be found at the bottom of the town’s sewer system. On the other hand, the Horadric Cube may be of more interest as there are formulae such as combining gems potions and low runes which may be of more help at the moment. The choice will be yours. The quests will be followed in order, however.

This quest is optional. You can complete the act IV without this quest done.

After entering Outer Steppes, it´s best to stay close to the edge, where are not as many monsters as in the middle. Of coure, if you are strong enough, feel free to clear all the area up. When you find stairs to the Plains of Despair, it´s best to find the way to the next area first - City of the Damned. Then go back to the middle of the plains and look for Izual. You will know that you are close to him, when the Quest log will start to shine. Kill the mobs around him first, then take him off. His damage is pretty low, only problem is his huge ammount of hp, so it can take a while. Beware his frost novas, which freeze you pretty much, so better bring some thawing potions with you. After visiting Tyrael, he will bestow you 2 free skill points.

This quest is optional. You can complete the act IV without this quest done.

In the River of Flame, check left side first (there shouldn´t be anything but creatures) and then go right. After few yards (or dozens of yards) there will be choice to go straight or down/up. Choose one way and proceed until you find either another waypoint guarded by an angel Hadriel, or you will find the hellforge. When you came across the waypoint, turn back and go to find the forge first. Kill all monsters around the forge, beware the Smith Hephasto. You have to kill him, because he carries the hell forge hammer, which is essential for completing ths quest. After killing him, click on the forge, and if you have Mephisto´s soulstone in your either inventory or stash, it will be placed on the forge. Then equip the hammer from smith and smash the stone. After doing so, various gems and one rune will fall out of the forge. The Quest is completed.

Quest 1: Siege on Harrogath
Quest 1: Siege on Harrogath
+

This quest is optional. You can complete the act V without this quest done.

At first go to the Larzuk, who will give you the first quest in the 5th act. He needs to kill the Captain of siege on Harrogath. It´s Shenk the Overseer, one super-unique Lasher. Travel out of the town and start killing all the mobs out there. You may notice that experience is gained much quicker here than in previous acts. Beware the siege catapults which throw various bullets at you, e.g. poison, lightning, freezing or bursting mines. There are few barbarian soldiers, who are fighting the enemies. You can help him if you wish. If you don´t, they will die. After reaching tight spot, there is super-unique goblil Dac Farren. Kill him for drop and exp, or leave him be and run up. Dac Farren is approximately half-way to Shenk the Overseer. When you find Shenk, he is surrounded by his minions - hell spawns. He lashes them with whip, which makes them more powerful. Sometimes, the Hell Spawn will transform itself to Frenzied Spawn, which will commit a suicide when close to you. Beware high burst damage they can cause. After killing Shenk, all creatures around will die. You don´t have to open a Town Portal, just up of the Shenk are stairs to Frigid Highlands, where is always a Waypoint at the very beginning. Return to Larzuk for your reward - he will add sockets to the unsocketed item of your choice. DON´T WASTE THIS on some crap piece of armor. This is able to give sockets to even Rare, Set or Unique things!

This quest is optional. You can complete the act V without this quest done.

You may have noticed, that after entering the Frigid Highlands, the Quest Log started to shine. Talk to Qual-Kehk for more information. You are asked to free 15 soldiers in Frigid Highlands. Simply roam through Highlands and look for fortresses in which are wooden prisons with 5 barbarians inside. Simply destroy the cage door, and barbarians will take town portal to get away. Find 3 of these cages and return to Qual-Kehk for a reward. He will give you three runes - Tal, Ral and Ort. When you place them into shield in order of: Ral-Ort-Tal, you will get Ancient's Pledge Rune Word. Additionaly, you are able to hire barbarians in Harrogath from now on.

This quest is optional. You can complete the act V without this quest done.

After finishing previous quest, Malah will give you another one. Anya is missing. Head forward to Arreat Plateau. In this area is nothing worth mentioning, except waypoint, which you can grab, and Thresh Socket, the super-unique, which guards the entrance to Crystalline Passage. Enter the passage and look for either waypoint, Glacial Trail entrance or Frozen River entrance. Take the Frozen River entrance and start searching for Anya. When you are close enough, the Quest Log will pop out. Take care, because she is guarded by pack of Frozen Abysses with super-unique Frozenstein. Be aware of reanimating dead as well, as they have very powerful charge attack, which deals massive damage and stuns. This applies mostly for the caster characters. After taking everyone down, or leading them away from Anya and quickly going to her, speak to her and make a town portal to Harrogath. Go to Malah, who will give you special potion which is used to melt ices around Anya. Simply go back to portal and click on frozen Anya again. She will automatically go to her own town portal, so you have to make another one to get away. In the town, Malah will give you very precious reward, the scroll which grants PERMANENT +10% to all resists upon using. Talk to Anya (in the lower part of Harrogath), and she will reward you with some your-class-specific rare item. She will also open a red portal leading to Nihlathak's Temple. Now when Nihlathak has run away, Anya is the one with who you can gamble. Quest done.

+

+

This is one of the most dangerous and deadly quests in Diablo II. Be very careful after entering the portal Anya created for you. You will be placed into Nihlathak's Temple, where lie corpses of reanimating dead. So when you hesitate too

much, they start awakening and attacking you with their deadly charge attack. So quickly go into the temple, where is one group of reanimating dead with their super-unique boss Pindleskin. The easiest way is to kill them with some ranged spell or weapon, or crowd attacks like Zeal (Paladin). Take the entrance to the first halls. There is nothing but many creatures and one way to the next level of Nihlathak's Halls. In the Halls of Pain there is next entrance, but a waypoint as well. Consider taking this waypoint more than any other WP in game, because once completing this quest and taking this waypoint, Anya will no longer open the red portal for you, so you won't be able to do "Pindle runs" (Quick killing Pindleskin for good loot, as he can drop almost every item on Hell difficulty). So I suggest taking it on Normal and Nightmare, but leaving it be on Hell difficulty. The other thing is, when playing online, Nihlathak is the one to drop Key of Destruction, so taking this portal will make Pindle runs much longer, but Dest-Key runs will be much faster. It depends on character and priorities - Items/Keys. When you finally find the entrance to the Halls of Vaught, The area looks like big cross, where the entrance is in the middle. On the one end of the four beams of cross, there is Nihlathak with his army of hell spawns. He is necromancer and he is capable of spawning creatures. He uses frozen breath ability, teleport, and the most dangerous - corpse explosion. Be extremly careful when killing him, because once you kill some monster, he will certainly blow it up, making tons of damage to you. If you are caster character, this can result in instant kill. The thing how to kill him is to have high damage reduction, as well as big fire resistance. Also, it is possible to teleport right next to him and smashing him to death. Or get Nature's Peace ring, which has nice ressurection prevention mod (don't get this if you are summon necromancer!). After his death, return to Harrogath and talk to Anya. Now she will personalize item of your choice. Any item, including Uniques, Rares and Sets, even Writ's Leg. Be careful with this, as personalised items lose their value in Player-Player barter. Quest is now completed.
