Regional Economic Development Councils (New York State)

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today launched Round IV of the Regional Economic Development Council (REDC) initiative, officially kicking off the 2014 competition for up to $750 million in state economic development resources. The Consolidated Funding Application (CFA) will open to applicants on May 1, enabling businesses, municipalities, not-for-profits and the public to begin applying for assistance from dozens of state funding programs, through a single application, for job-creating and community development projects.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance 2015

This opportunity allows IRS to provide grants to organizations to achieve the following program objectives 1)Enable the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program to extend services to underserved populations in hardest-to-reach areas, both urban and non-urban; 2)Increase the capacity to file returns electronically; 3)Heighten quality control; 4)Enhance training of volunteers; and 5)Improve significantly the accuracy rate of returns prepared at VITA sites.

Tax Counseling for the Elderly

The Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) Program offers FREE tax help to individuals who are age 60 or older. Section 163 of the Revenue Act of 1978, Public Law No. 95-600, 92 Stat. 2810, November 6, 1978, authorizes this cooperative agreement. The Act authorizes the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to enter into agreements with private or public nonprofit agencies and organizations, which will provide training and technical assistance to volunteers who provide FREE tax counseling and assistance to elderly individuals in the preparation of their federal income tax returns. This Act authorizes an appropriation of special funds, in the form of grants, to provide tax assistance to persons age 60 years of age or older. The IRS receives the funds as a line item in the budget appropriation.

Competitive Grant to Establish a USDA Center for Behavioral Economics and Healthy Food Choice Research

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA’s) Economic Research Service (ERS), in collaboration with USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service (FNS), invites proposals for a competitive grant to establish and fund a USDA Center for Behavioral Economics and Healthy Food Choice Research. The USDA Center will facilitate new and innovative research on the application of behavioral economics theory to healthy food choice behaviors that would contribute to enhancing the nutrition, food security, and health of American consumers.
