DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Carlos de la Fuente didn’t like what heard, and the man who said it gave de la Fuente an idea. “Donald Trump is easy to pick on. He’s a character with all that hair waving in the air all the time,” he said.
The Oak Cliff native owns and operates ABC Party, a shoppe that sells party favors, balloons and hand-crafted piñatas. In the small room, employee Alex Chavez builds and molds piñatas. In a matter of minutes, yellow tissue becomes hair, black paper becomes a suit and a red strip is a bold tie. Chavez has made the store’s latest popular piñata: The Donald.
“Everybody has stress at this time, and what better than to just knock the crap out of Donald Trump”, de la Fuente figured.
At the West Davis street shoppe, near the popular Bishop Arts District, the Trump piñata hangs at the store entrance. Trump, a Republican candidate for the Presidency, made headlines when he said illegal immigrants from Mexico were rapists, criminals and drug traffickers.
“Because of his unkind words, we want to have fun with him, co-owner Elvie de la Fuente said. The phone at the store rings with inquiries and orders. One caller asked if the de la Fuente’s would make Obama, Hillary Clinton or Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price piñatas?
“You pay me, I’ll do it”, was Mr. de la Fuente’s answer.
The Trump piñata didn’t start as a request. The Oak Cliff store owners believed customers would want to take a whack at Trump. So far, they’re sold out.
Piñatas are considered symbols of evil in Mexico. They have to be smashed to release the good, the tradition goes.
