DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - More than 100 protesters gathered outside Dallas police headquarters Wednesday night at a vigil held by Mothers Against Police Brutality.
More than 70 unarmed and mentally ill people were killed by Dallas police since 2002, according to the group and not one indictment was filed in any of the fatal shootings.
“We’re constantly on TV trying to prove what wonderful people our family members were – they were sweet, they were kind, they were unarmed, they went to college, they were coming from college, and trying to justify why they didn’t deserve to die. And in reality, none of us deserve to die,” said Sara Mokuria, whose father was killed by police in front of her when she was 10-years-old.
The group has held several rallies before, but the high profile, fatal shooting of unarmed man in Missouri and two others in Dallas this week fueled interest; drawing a larger crowd than usual.
Mokuria said she is working on a program to unite officers in training with people affected by the shootings.
