I was first exposed to Micellar Water when I was studying in France. Having heard praises of French women’s skincare I combed through the internet in search of what products they used. One item – Micellar Water, came up in almost every list I found. Widely available in all French pharmacies, it is with no surprise that I found it to be a product that women in France swore by. Today, this well-kept beauty secret is making its way onto the shores of our sunny island. Let us get better acquainted with it!

What is “micellar water”?

Micellar water is a skincare product that is used to remove makeup and cleanse the skin without the need for rinsing. The tiny oil molecules suspended in the solution help to sweep away the oil and dirt clinging onto your face. Do not worry though, the micellar water does not leave your skin feeling oily!

How do I use it?

Soak your cotton pad in the solution and sweep it across your entire face concentrating on your T-zone or areas with makeup. Do it twice or till all your makeup has been removed (usually when your cotton pad stops looking soiled).

DV Tip

Pack Micellar Water into your travel kit for fuss-free cleansing.

Try these micellar cleansers

1. Bioderma Sensibio H2O (SGD40.90)

Source

Produced in France, Bioderma’s Micellar Water is a cult favourite and I swear by it. Introduced to me by the many French beauty blogs I spent hours reading during my stay in France, I have not looked back since. It is incredibly gentle on the skin and does the job of cleaning the impurities of your face extremely well. Despite being sensitive to intolerant skin, the Bioderma Sensibio H2O still manages to remove water-resistant makeup from the face and eyes, producing a refreshing feeling instantly.

I have gotten through two bottles and I have another two bottles stashed under my sink. ’nuff said

DV Tip

Soak cotton pads with Micellar water and paste it over the dry areas of your face as a quick hydrating mask.

2. Stenders Micellar Water (SGD25)

A three-fold application toning facial water that helps to clear skin of impurities, remove makeup and give your skin a refreshed and moisturised feel, Stenders Micellar Water leaves skin feeling clean and fresh. Enriched with wild rose flower and root extracts, this product also help to tone and hydrate skin while the Chamomile extract leaves skin feeling calm and soothed.

3. Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water (SGD18.90)

Directly imported from Europe, Garnier has also released its very own Micellar Cleansing Water. A super efficient and gentle way to cleanse, remove makeup, sooth and hydrate skin, this product is priced very affordably at SGD18.90 making it a great introductory product for anyone who is on the fence about jumping onto the Micellar Cleansing Water bandwagon.

4. Origins No-Rinse Micellar Cleanser (SGD53)

Powered by Mega-Mushroom key ingredients such as Reishi, Chaga, Ginger and Turmeric, Origins’ new Micellar Cleanser is designed to promote skin’s resilience. On top of that, the inclusion of Rice Bran extract, helps to grab onto residual pollution left behind on the skin (No thanks, haze!), neutralising them, putting a stop to the amount of damage done to the skin. Simultaneously, yeast berry ferment provides a powerful blend of anti-oxidants, helping to combat the effects of pollution. This new, non-stripping cleanser can hence be used in place of a traditional cleanser to help the skin’s barrier fight against the effects of pollution while preventing redness and sensitivity caused by frequent cleansing.

Given how harmful our weather has been of late, this may just be the bottle to pick up.
