When the world went sideways last March, one of the first things to slide into the realm of non, was unfortunately, the Deus Gallery.
Reopening has been high on the priority list for a long while now but it took a coming together of a number of great established and new artists to make it a reality. But we did it.
Talk about a bloody good evening night, absolutely fantastic to see a lot of old friends who came out to support and see what we had put together. We also welcomed a lot of new friends who came to see what the dormant backroom had been transformed into.
Walking daily through the gallery since the opening and seeing all these amazing pieces upon the wall is a reaffirmation that all will be good in the world. Art is a powerful part of all of our lives and to live without it for any period of time, is a crime.
If you are in Bali, do make sure you come down to the Deus Temple and see the amazing work we’re so fortunate to be able to exhibit on our walls.

‘Shades of Belief’ is an exploration of a realm most of us in the west would like to leave well enough alone. Here in Bali where religion permeates every aspect of life, well, they are a little less daunted by the idea, in fact, their art is steeped in it.
Spiritualism in art is older than the wheel and manifests in a multitude of shapes and forms. In this exhibition, ten Indonesian artists delve headlong into these shades of expressions and their own imaginations.
We invited Indonesia’s leading printmaking studio, ‘Black Hand Gang’, whose artist collective includes; Ida Bagus Putu Purwa, Kuncir SV, Dewa Made Johana, Kanoko, & Degeha. It is their art that formed the framework, which then left us to go out and carefully select a number of local emerging Bali artists; Aditya Mikuk, Gracka Greg, Kadek Dwi, Nana Partha, & Septa Adi who, through their works, would add not only their own particular extra dimensions and perceptions to the show but would also add more voices to this incredibly interesting conversation.
The common thread across these ten artists is the use of the print medium to give us their interpretation of personal & cultural spiritual symbols.
Art used to illuminate social do’s and don’ts…
Is its role to maintain social order or broaden the mind?
Huge thank you to Heineken, Kaltenberg & Konig Ludwig Weissbier for providing some refreshments.
