We’ve all experienced wardrobe mishaps. While it may be tempting to throw away these broken, ripped or stained items and buy new ones, if you’re resourceful, there are quick fixes that will help make your clothes look as good as new.

1. You lose a button

Use: A safety pin

Depending on the visibility of the buttonhole, you can pin the area together if closure is the main concern. This is a good fix for pants or a skirt and you’re able to hide the area.

Pro tip: Keep a mini travel sewing kit in your desk, you never know when you’ll need it.

2.Your hem comes undone

Use: Double-sided tape

Double-sided tape is an easy fix for a hem that’s come down. Alternatively you could use safety pins. Avoid stapling your clothes as staples damage the fabric.

Pro tip: If you have the means, you can invest in a fashion tape because it’s stronger than your average double-sided tape and is suitable for thicker fabrics like jeans, and will fix everything from a hem to a broken zipper or neckline, and it’s great for keeping a bra strap in place.

3 .You broke a heel

Use: Super glue

When it comes to repairs, super glue is effective and powerful. If your heel comes off, align it in its original position as best you can, apply super glue, and then apply pressure for a few minutes to ensure it will stay put. Just remember not to get any glue on your fingers or clothes.

Pro tip: Invest in contact glue if you have a little extra time. It takes a day to dry, is permanent, waterproof and also suitable for binding leather to leather. Always keep a second pair of ’emergency shoes’, ideally pumps in your car or in your bag and make sure you always have a tube of super glue in your desk drawer.

4. You have deodorant marks on your clothes

Rubbing the fabric vigorously against itself helps. The friction will almost always remove the white marks better than rubbing a towel or other piece of fabric against it. White vinegar will also work if your deodorant stains are particularly persistent.

Pro tip: Invest in some wipe-out erasers. Use them on dry clothes or dampen them before use for perfect results.

5.You spilled something on yourself

Use: White Vinegar

Different stains requite different fixes, but white vinegar can attach to almost everything, including coffee, wine, sweat and ink. Soak the mark with vinegar, let it saturate for a couple of minutes, then wash it out.

Pro tip: Invest in a purse-friendly instant stain remover, whether in a sachet or small bottle for emergencies.

6. There’s a run in your stockings

Use: Clear nail polish

Clear nail polish can be a lifesaver when it comes to keeping a run in your hose from getting bigger. Just dab some on either end of the run. Almost everyone has a bottle in their purse or office drawer, or you could pick some up at a pharmacy or nail salon if you’re out of the office.

Pro tip: To avoid any disappointments, always keep in mind that size matters when it comes to buying pantyhose and tights.  No matter what your body type, always choose a larger size of hose, so for example, if you are size small, buy medium.
