Two renowned production houses, Soojit Sircar’s Rising Sun Films (VICKY DONOR, PIKU etc ) and Crouching Tiger Motion Pictures (AIRLIFT, BABY etc), famous for providing wholesome entertainment, come together for a romantic comedy, RUNNING SHAADI. Music is expected to be unconventional but catering to popular taste as well, quite on the lines of their previous ventures.

Composer duo, Abhishek-Akshay (VICKY DONOR) offering, ‘Pyaar Ka Test‘ is truly ‘bhojpuri’ filmy style wedding celebration number complete with brass bands, trumpets, harmonium etc. Evergreen Bappi da renders the number in his trademark lovable style along with Kalpana Potwary and together they bring back memories of ‘Ooh La La‘ days. Lyrics are certainly the highlight where couples try to get a measure of their love for each other.
Quite along the same lines as ‘Idiot Hai Mera Banna‘ (DANGAL), ‘Mannerless Majnu‘ is a humorous number that sees the smart and ‘well-bred and read’ female lead making fun of the desi, illiterate male lead who is enamoured by her. Composed by Abhishek-Akshay, it’s another folk tune inspired desi style number that has some relevant and interesting lyrics by Manoj Yadav and rendered well by Sukanya Purkayastha.
One does listen to ‘Dimpy De Naal Bhaage Bunty‘ with moist eyes as we remember the late Labh Janjua who entertained music lovers with his superb chartbusting Punjabi bhangra based numbers. This one too is quite in the same league, although not a chartbusting as it’s a situational number, due the fact that the subject revolves around couples who run away from home to get married.
Another situational and funny soft rock based number is the Keegan Pinto composed ‘Bhaag Milky Bhaag‘, where the protagonists are urging the girl, who is having second thoughts about running away from home to care a damn about everything and ‘bhaag‘ (run!). Sanam Puri and Sonu Kakkar render the number with ease. Lyrics (by Keegan Pinto) are top class.
Jubin Nautiyal seems to be certainly the chosen one as most recent albums do contain a song or two rendered by him. This one too brings the talented lad back with ‘Faraar‘ (by Keegan Pinto) a soft rock based, situational, semi-philosophical number which talks about freedom to love, express and be free. Jubin’s diction needs improvement (mark, ‘khuda‘).
Lovely guitar strums and crooning kick start ‘Kuch Toh Hai‘, composed by Anjana Ankur Singh and Sandeep Mahadevan, a quintessential romantic number, where the heady feeling of being in love and its side effects is expressed well. Jubin does well. Soft rock changing into hard rock ending in the crescendo is the highlight of the song.
Anupam Roy (PIKU) composed ‘Main Faraar Sa‘ is a nice romantic number with good arrangements (lovely chorals, harmonica, guitars). Sung well by the composer himself with Hamsika Iyer complementing him, the song brings back memories of ‘Khamoshiyan‘ title track.
Summing up, the audio of RUNNING SHAADI blends well with the story , providing an insight into what can be expected from the movie, but if one looks for chartbusters, then there is something amiss. Our picks- ‘Pyaar Ka Test’, ‘Mannerless Majnu‘ and ‘Faraar‘. The situational songs will surely aid the narrative and translate well on screen (and attain more popularity) when the film releases this week.
