These amazingly detailed skulls that are hand carved and painted with oil on Philippine mother-of-pear shells by artist Gregory Halili. According to Halili, “The shell’s natural shape is best for skulls. He could create portraits but they will not be as effective as skulls.” Using monochromatic tones with hints of color, Halili recreates the primal image of the skull with meticulous precision and immense detail. His amazing skulls will be shown at Silverlens Galleries in Manila and Nancy Hoffman Gallery in NYC. If you don’t have chance to view these incredible skull shell in person, you can see some in Halili’s Facebook gallery.
