Hellllooo friends! Is anyone still checking the blog? It’s been so long, please forgive my extended summer blogcation.
I’m excited to end my blog hiatus with a fun collaboration with 24 other interior designers in an event we are calling #camerareadyinteriors. We are paying homage to our favorite photographers who bring our interiors to life.
I can wholeheartedly say that my portfolio would be totally lack-luster if it weren’t for the talented eye and lens of Courtney Apple. I met Courtney back in 2011 when she agreed to photograph my Northern Liberties Loft. Those pretty pictures ended up in websites and magazines all over the world and launched my decorating career. She has been my go-to photographer ever since.
I think Courtney is great for so many reasons, but the tops has got to be that she goes over and beyond to get the best possible shot for me. I will never forget our experience photographing the 3rd floor lounge in my cottage. It’s small space with challenging roof lines. The only way to get a good shot of our reclaimed wood daybed was to put a plank over the open stairwell and have her balance on top of it. I could tell she was a little nervous balancing up there, but she went for it and got some beautiful shots. That’s commitment!
Beyond her skillful acrobatics, I’m always impressed with Courtney’s patience and keen eye for detail. She never ever complains if I need to test out 14 different angles for one shot. She pays attention to scale and finicky details that might look great in real life but translate strangely in photos. It’s funny how a styling arrangement can look skewed through a lens. She always picks up on that and helps me tweak as necessary to capture the vision. While we don’t typically need a lot of post editing, she is always endlessly accommodating to my requests to tweak it “just a bit crisper” “a tad brighter” and “a teeny bit more cropped.”
It can’t go without saying that Courtney has photographed five of my One Room Challenge spaces and has turned around impeccable photos in a matter of days! #SuperStar.
And lastly, she is just so darn nice and down to earth. Just the kind of person I prefer to work with. I truly consider her an honorary member of the Design Manifest team.
Courtney has photographed so many great spaces for us. Here are a few of my faves:
I’m looking forward to working with Courtney again real soon. Hopefully this Fall! We are SOOO behind on photographing finished work. So look for new Design Manifest/ Courtney Apple collaborations in the near future. In the meanwhile, you can check out Courtney’s portfolio HERE and her instagram HERE.
