Its 11-night package Discover Southeast Asia (visiting Singapore, Bangkok, Yangon and Bagan) is the ultimate travel experience while Belmond also offers to arrange a tailor-made adventure in the region.
In addition Belmond offers two other exciting Chronicles of Southeast Asia journeys where customers get to venture off the beaten track. Belmond’s rail experiences in Southeast Asia constitute a passport to the exotic and the sophisticated.
Native Samui culture
Situated on Baan Thai beach, Belmond Napasia on the Samui island boasts the largest private beach in Koh Samui. Napasai combines natural beauty and luxury living into one perfect paradise escape where the verdant green forest meets the tropical sea. Native culture is very much a part of the experience. The restaurant Lai Thai is committed to serving cuisine made with the freshest ingredients, including fish sourced daily from local anglers. Visitors can immerse themselves in the local way of life during their stay.
The hotel has planted an organic garden in the grounds, where home grown fruit, vegetables and herbs are freshly picked every day. Guests can also harvest produce including papaya, star fruit, tomato, pumpkin, lemongrass, Thai basil and ginger from the garden before preparing fragrant local cuisine during a cooking lesson.
Belmond Napasai’s lush woodland is home to a petting farm of goats, pigs, ducks and chickens. Children staying at the hotel can stroke and feed the animals and collect chicken eggs in the morning, which are used in the hotel’s cuisine and signature cocktails.
Colonial style coffee
Belmond Napasai also serves organic produce from further afield and is one of only 14 properties in the world to offer Black Ivory Coffee, an exclusive beverage that is only available in selected five-star hotels. This uniquely processed coffee is made from 100% Thai Arabica cherries naturally refined by Thai elephants, which digest the beans to remove the bitterness and impart more fruit.
Eight percent of Black Ivory Coffee sales are donated to the Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation. Only 300kg of the coffee was produced in 2013, and at Belmond Napasai guests can watch as the coffee beans are ground at the table before them and brewed in a colonial-style machine.
