Underground Music Showcase (UMS)

All over the place

In 2011, the UMS topped all previous years with the largest showing of bands and fans alike. With a musical lineup including artists such as Snake Rattle Rattle Snake, Sage Francis, The Epilogues, El Ten Eleven, Generationals, Bear Hands, The Black Heart Procession, Ian Cooke, Achille Lauro and Danielle Ate The Sandwich, and an attendance of 11,000 music-loving people, the Historic Baker District was the most vibrant neighborhood in Denver from July 21-24, 2011.

The UMS is a unique event in many ways, from the sheer number of performing bands, dj’s, comedians and singer-songwriters, to the duration of the event (four days), to the convenience of staging it all within a few blocks along the South Broadway arts district. It’s where the city of Denver and its music fans convene every July. It’s a congregation, an event, and a place where you’ll not only hear established performers, but those who are just about to break. Past performers include Devotchka, Isaac Slade of The Fray, 16 Horsepower, The Flobots and Nathaniel Rateliff.

Get your rest, because you won’t want to miss a single day of the 2012 UMS lineup!

US Air Guitar Championships

8pm – 12am

Bluebird

Hand-picked winners from competitions held in 15 cities across america will descend upon denver to settle once and for all who will become the 2012 us air guitar champion.

This is the super bowl of air guitar.

US Air Guitar is currently assembling an unprecedented array of talent. Over the course of the year, regional competitions are being held in 15 cities across America. The winner from each city will be flown to Denver on July 21 to battle for Air Guitar supremacy. The Winner of the National Finals will become The 2012 US Champion, and will win a trip to Finland in August to represent the USA in the Air Guitar World Championships, where he or she will represent the stars and stripes against national champions from 25 other countries all around the world.

The competition consists of two rounds. In Round 1, each competitor performs to a song of their own choosing. In Round 2, the top competitors from Round 1 perform to a surprise compulsory song. In each round, contestants perform for one minute of a song and are judged on a combination of technical merit, stage presence, and “airness.” All guitars must be invisible. In each city, the jury is a panel of independent judges that are hand picked by US Air Guitar. The results of the jury cannot be protested.

New Belgium Urban Assault Ride 2012

Skyline Park (16th and Arapahoe)

The Urban Assault Ride™ is the biggest Bicycle Obstacle Event series in the nation! Here’s how it works: You and your teammate will set out on a city-wide quest for ‘checkpoints’ on your favorite two-wheeled steeds. At each checkpoint, you’ll drop your bikes and complete a funky/adventurous obstacle course, then remount your bikes and hit the streets for more.

The goal is to complete all the checkpoints in the shortest amount of time. You choose your own route and checkpoint order. This means that the most clever are often the victors. Of course, it may also help if you can pull a mean big-wheel powerslide and fly across an inflatable slip-n-slide.

After your pedal-powered adventure, your team will cross the finish line and enter a massive celebration of New Belgium Brewing Co’s whimsical ways, bikes, and big wheels. The after party is just as much fun as the ride itself, thanks to the craziest raffle prize contest you’ll ever experience.

Pick a partner and we’ll see you there!!
