Odell Small Batch Festival - 2011

Weekend off the Wagon in your inbox, every Friday

Memorial Day Weekend! It’s a weekend to remember those who we’ve lost in service to our country. It also signifies a lot of things: festival season, grilling season, something called summer. And of course, for most of you who sit at a desk during daylight hours, it means a three day weekend.

Beyond your festivalgrillingsummer party, there’s a few fun things going on. There’s a beer festival in Beaver Creek and A-Basin, as well as Odell’s Small Batch Festival. The Rockies have a double header on Monday, and the Rapids are playing on Saturday. And of course, there’s a patio with your name on it, calling your name, or some other mixed metaphor.

Have a great, safe, and delicious drink filled weekend!

AC Golden Hidden Barrel Collection Release at Mile High Wine & Spirits

Mile High Wine & Spirits

The time is finally upon us. After many hiccups and over the last few long months of waiting, we are finally ready to announce the arrival of the first bottles from AC Golden’s Hidden Barrel Collection of beers: Peche and Apricot! These are the highly talked about “sour” beers that have been steadily gaining interest from a wide group of individuals (Peche was actually awarded a Silver medal in this year’s World Beer Cup). Aged in oak barrels with an average of over 100 pounds of fresh Colorado fruit, these beers are precise with acidity, highly complex and highly expressive of the fruit in which they were aged on.

We want to thank all those who have expressed interest; these bottles will be well worth the wait. While we would love to be able to allow bottles to go home with you today, with the high level of demand and extremely scarce nature of these beers, sales will be pushed off and begin on Saturday May 26th. There will be a limit set to two bottles per person, per variation. Sales will begin once we open our doors at 9:00 AM, and we will be taking orders over the phone for those that might not be able to make it in person. Don’t feel that an early morning rush is needed; we have actually timed this release to coincide with our usual Saturday afternoon tasting! The Peche, Apricot and Colorado Native will be available to taste, for free, from 3:00 to 6:00. We have also secured the presence of brewers Troy Casey and Kent Reichow to be in attendance to answer any questions during the tasting.

For those that want more information on this amazing project, click over to an interview that we conducted with Troy Casey.

All of us at Mile High are filled with extreme gratitude to our friends over at AC Golden and to all of our customers that share our excitement for this new frontier of Colorado brewing. See you all on the 26th….

Denver Day of Rock

Denver Day of Rock event to help benefit Food Bank of the Rockies this year!

It’s hard for most of us to imagine, but every day in our community, more than 300,000 people worry about where they will find their next meal. Hunger is very real and Food Bank of the Rockies is fighting to ensure no one goes without needed nutrition. 1 in 7 Colorado citizens live with food insecurity and struggle to meet their basic food needs. Hunger is especially hard on children, who make up 42% of the Food Bank’s clients and require proper nutrition to grow and learn. In today’s economy, the need for food assistance is increasing substantially.

This year at the 3rd Annual Denver Day of Rock, individuals will be asked to bring cans of non-perishable food in which will directly benefit Food Bank of the Rockies. During the event, there will be several bins at various locations along the 16th Street Mall where individuals can drop off cans of food. All food donated that day will go directly to FBR in order for them to continue to help feed our community and fight hunger. Who does your donation help?

42% of those receiving food assistance are children; 10% are children age 5 or younger. Seniors represent 5% of clients. Many recipients are the working poor. 42% of the households receiving food assistance from our agencies have at least one working adult. 14% of our recipients are homeless.

So come to the event and help Concerts For Kids and Food Bank of the Rockies fight hunger in our community!
