The UF College of Dentistry announced today that Cesar Migliorati, D.D.S., M.S., Ph.D., will join the college on March 1, 2017, as a professor in the UF department of Oral and Maxillofacial Diagnostic Sciences and has been appointed associate dean for clinical affairs and quality.

Migliorati is currently a professor and chair of the department of diagnostic sciences and oral medicine at the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry where he also serves as director of oral medicine. He has been in Tennessee since 2009, having previously worked at Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale; the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil; Clinic for Geriatric and Handicapped Dentistry, Health Department- Zurich, Switzerland; and the University of California in San Francisco.

Joining the University of Florida is something of a homecoming for Migliorati who was with the college from 1990 to 1993 as an assistant professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Diagnostic Sciences Division of Oral Medicine.

Migliorati brings extensive teaching experience with both predoctoral students and residents, as well as decades of experience lecturing across the globe, consulting with various institutions, active leadership in organized dentistry, service on editorial boards, a lengthy list of publications, and an extensive research background. At UT, he administers a large department with five divisions – oral diagnosis, oral medicine, oral and maxillofacial pathology, oral and maxillofacial radiology, and dental emergency. His work has been recognized with numerous professional and teaching awards including the 1993 Division of Continuing Education for the Professions Programing Award with the course “Infection Control in the Dental Office: the Dental Team Concept” during his time at UF. He is board certified by the American Board of Oral Medicine, and currently serves as board secretary.

His research collaborations focus on supportive care in cancer and the oral complications of cancer therapy. His most recent research involves osteonecrosis of the jaws associated with bisphosphonate medications, and the use of low-level laser therapy in the prevention and control of oral mucositis.

Migliorati also has a comprehensive clinical background, having worked in clinical dentistry during his entire career both academically and in private practice. He is experienced in infection control and protocol development, interprofessional education and care delivery. In addition to his administrative responsibilities and research activities, Dr. Migliorati will work in our oral medicine center. He is a team player and has the vision of a generalist, who works for education at the highest level, and best possible patient safety and outcomes of care.
