Feel free to skim over and get a feel for how I run the course. Please don't download files ahead of time as I may make modifications. Also, some topics are more confusing if you read the notes ahead of time. There will be a method to the madness. Follow my path for the best way through Chemistry. Don't try to do it on your own.

THE CHEMISTRY REGENTS IS OFFERED ON WEDNESDAY AUGUST 17 8:00 AM !
STUDY AND RETAKE IT FOR A PASSING REGENTS GRADE!
SIGN UP ON THE SCHOOL WEBSITE ASAP!
A student informed me that the notes on organic chemistry reactions were not posted. They were the last few slides in the notes. I have reposted the organic chemistry notes below. It's possible that he meant notes on primary and secondary alcohols. I apologize, but I don't have slides on that topic, I just explained that on the board.

Remember that I, and other classmates, are here for clarification and questions. Just don't expect an immediate reply. I check 1-2 times a day. Once in the morning and once in the afternoon or evening.

{information_man_by_mike44nh-d4ut6uc.png} Nota Bene: Cold Spring Harbor's Urban Barcoding Project (UBRP) is looking for Juniors who did well in Living Environment to learn cutting edge Genetics research techniques and apply them to research the DNA biodiversity of New York City. It's a free program in Manhattan on 120th St and 2nd Ave. Classes are given during the Mid-Winter Break and during the summer. The students meet with a mentor to research throughout the year. I strongly suggest applying for this if you are interested in a career in Biology Research or to pad your resume for college or if you're interested in going into Medicine. Here's more information about The Urban Barcode Project Here's last year's group event.
I asked Cold Spring Harbor about the program and this was their response:
"The UBRP is a program in which students are trained through two week-long courses that they sign up for. And then the following year theycan work with a mentor scientist to do research projects. These are the courses they register for online. If they registered and they registered early enough they will get notification. I believe my colleague Christine will be notifying students about the mid-winter recess course by today if they are on the roster for the course."
So, register online for the courses and you can do research outside of school next year.

Don't forget that the exam when we come back will also include The Periodic Table and Chemical Bonding! Good luck!

Element Names
There will be a quiz on element names and symbols on the Wed we get back. You are responsible for memorizing the following elements of the periodic table. {element names to know and love short.pdf} It will be a 0 or a 100 quiz. That means any error will result in a score of zero. There will be ONE retake given in class. After the retake, students may see me during their lunch period to retake the quiz as many times as necessary. First quiz is scheduled for next Wed.
