DuPont Pioneer president to retire

DuPont announced that after 42 years of service, Paul E. Schickler, president, DuPont Pioneer, has elected to retire effective January 2, 2017.

Schickler began his career with Pioneer in 1974. Since joining the company, he served in a variety of finance and administrative leadership roles throughout the business, including leading the business in Latin America from 1999-2002. He was subsequently named vice president of International Operations, and in October 2007, he was named

Schickler is a graduate of Drake University, where he received Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts degrees in business administration.

Tatnall names head of school

The Tatnall School Board of Trustees announced the appointment of Christopher Tompkins as the school’s 11th Head of School to succeed Dr. Timothy Burns, who will end his interim term at the end of the 2016-2017 academic year.

Tompkins is currently the Head of School at Episcopal Collegiate School in Little Rock, Arkansas. Since his appointment, Tompkins has established a writing center, implemented a state-of-the-art design lab and secured a large capital gift for the Preschool playground. He has also been responsible for curriculum development, fundraising initiatives and faculty oversight.

He earned bachelor’s degrees in history and government from Colby College and a master’s degree of social science from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University.

Community Foundation welcomes two staffers

The Delaware Community Foundation welcomed Michelle Marshall as the new gift administrator and Cheryl Rice-Moore as the new accounts payable coordinator.

Before joining the DCF, Marshall was the event coordinator for the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, where she coordinated fundraising and awareness events, scheduled meetings, handled patient follow-ups, processed donations, and gifts, and served as the community contact for the organization. She previously worked for The Goddard School as an assistant teacher and Bank of America in the card services department.

Marshall graduated from Delaware Technical & Community College with a degree in office administration.

Rice-Moore is a Philadelphia native who came to Delaware in 1998. Most recently, she was in charge of business and finance at Bethel AME Church in Wilmington. Rice-Moore previously worked for the office of finance at Pennsylvania State University and with various nonprofit organizations.

Rice-Moore graduated from LaSalle University with a bachelors in accounting and marketing and is currently pursuing a master’s degree at the University of Delaware.

Delaware Tech inducts  distinguished  alumni

Delaware Technical Community College’s Stanton and George Campuses will induct its 2016 Distinguished Alumni Award recipients, Aaron Schrader and Amporn Vasquez. The award is presented bi-annually to graduates in recognition of excellence and outstanding achievements in their professional careers and in their service to the community.

Aaron Schrader (Delaware Tech, 2003) is is a Human Resources Manager for the State of Delaware’s Office of Management and Budget, Statewide Benefits Office. In this role, he oversees the operational aspects of the state Group Health, DelaWELL Health Management, Disability and Life Insurance Programs, statewide benefits strategic planning and communications.

Schrader’s first project for the State of Delaware was to study employee health outcomes. This led to the creation of the DelaWELL Program which offers wellness and disease management benefits to over 65,000 eligible state employees, retirees and their family members. The program has led to improvements in participant lifestyle and medical risk factors, reductions in hospital admissions and millions of dollars in savings through our disease management program.

Schrader graduated from Delaware Tech in 2003 with a degree in Exercise Science. He continued to earn his Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from the University of Delaware in 2005 and earned a Master of Science in Health Promotion from the University of Delaware in 2009.

In May 2012, Schrader was awarded “Office of Management and Budget’s (OMB) Employee of the Year.” In July 2014, he was appointed by Governor Markell as a member of the Council on Health Promotion and Disease Prevention.

Amporn Vasquez (Delaware Tech, 1999) began her quest for the American Dream at age 14 when, determined to escape familial abuse and an arranged marriage, she hid in a zoo in her native Thailand and was eventually rescued, and made her way to the United States, settling in Delaware. She took on a series of odd jobs and domestic work to support herself until she met restaurateur Betsy LeRoy, who was planning to open Pizza by Elizabeths restaurant. LeRoy inspired Vasquez to go to culinary school at Delaware Tech, and then hired her as the restaurant’s kitchen manager.

After graduating from Delaware Tech in 1999, Vasquez became the restaurant’s executive chef, retiring in 2013. Over the years, Vasquez has received many awards and recognition including the President’s Award for Commitment to the American Culinary Federation from the First State Chef’s Association, Distinguished Service Award from the First State Chef’s Association, the National Restaurant Association’s prestigious Faces of Diversity American Dream Award, and Chef of the Year from the First State Chefs’ Association.

Bryn Mawr Bank appoints VP

Bryn Mawr Bank Corporation announced that it has appointed Mary Rose Hill,   as Vice President and Wealth Advisor in Bryn Mawr Trust’s Wealth Management Division.

Hill joined Bryn Mawr Trust from Wells Fargo Bank, N.A., in Philadelphia, where, most recently, she was a Vice President and Trust Team Manager for Investment and Fiduciary Services in Wealth Management.

She is a Certified Financial Planner professional, and she has earned the designation of Certified Trust and Financial Advisor. She has a master’s degree in Trust and Wealth Management from Campbell University, and undergraduate degrees in Business Administration (Finance) and Arts Administration (Fine Arts/Art History) from the University of Kentucky.

Stone named executive director of World Trade Center

The Board of the World Trade Center Delaware announced that Carla Sydney Stone would join its staff as Executive Director.

Stone, a recipient of the “Exporter of the Year Award” from the U.S. Small Business Administration, is the founder and principal of International Development & Technical Assistance, LLC, a firm that provides global consulting services to companies, non- governmental organizations and government agencies. Before founding IDTA, she managed Delaware Tech’s international programs and partnerships to provide aid to other countries, and worked in banking and energy.

Stone is a graduate of Columbia University’s Henry Krumb School of Mines with a bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Geophysics Option and master’s degree in Mining Engineering and Mineral Economics. She has additional certifications in water and wastewater, OSHA and international project management. She has worked to promote U.S. exports throughout the world in countries as diverse as China, Bulgaria and Jordan. Stone’s most recent projects have included working with a NATO Science for Peace and Security Programme in Macedonia; developing Romania’s plan to bring telemedicine to rural areas; helping U.S. companies respond to the Ebola outbreaks; providing technical assistance to U.S. manufacturers wishing to improve product quality in their supply chain; and, providing training to Middle Eastern water utilities. She is a consultant to governments on critical areas of trade, environment, human capability and resource management.

Stone is currently president of the board of the Delaware chapter of People to People International, board member of the Delaware Society for the Preservation of Antiquities and sits on the International Council of Delaware. She is a former board member of World Trade Center Delaware.

Former CEO Rebecca Faber remains as President of the World Trade Center Delaware Board of Directors. Nesrin Cakiroglu remains in her post as Director of Operations.

Wilmington University personnel moves

Wilmington University announced the following personnel moves:

Dr. Peter Bailey:  In addition to having responsibility for Wilmington University’s Public Relations, Military Affairs, Government Relations, Academic Partnerships and Business Development, Bailey now oversees International Admissions and International Recruiting to support and continue building the university’s growing international student population. His new title is Vice President of External and International Affairs.

Dr. Eileen Donnelly: Formerly Assistant Vice President and Dean of the College of Online and Experiential Learning, Donnelly has joined Wilmington University’s executive team as Vice President of Enrollment Management. She now leads university-wide efforts toward optimal enrollment and enhanced student learning and success. She also provides leadership for Academic Advising, the Office of the Registrar, student outreach and several other departments and student-centered functions.

Dr. Stefanie Whitby:  Whitby is now the Senior Director of the University Partnership Center, which was recently created to strengthen and streamline Wilmington University’s partnerships with external organizations, businesses, and nonprofits. She initiates this new role and outreach program following her success as the university’s Senior Director of Alumni Relations, during which time she organized, led alumni to outreach efforts and developed programs that continue today to energize and support Wilmington University’s network of over 40,000 alumni.

Dr. Sallie Reissman:  Promoted to assistant vice president and Dean of the College of Online and Experiential Learning, Reisman takes on responsibility for the university’s cooperative education, online and experiential learning (turning real world experience into college credit for adult learners). She retains responsibility for the university’s educational and classroom technology and web communications, which she undertook in her previous role as Director of Educational Technology.

Melanie Baldwin:  Formerly Senior Director of Site Locations (Wilmington University currently has 14 locations), Baldwin now supports the new international team as Senior Director of International Recruitment and Partnerships. In this new role, she will expand academic relationships with international universities in addition to traveling to actively recruit international students and partnerships.

Christopher Pitcher:  As assistant vice president, Public Relations, Pitcher now has responsibility for all academic partnerships and military affairs in addition to overseeing the PR function for the university.

Dr. Joseph Aviola:    Avila’s promotion to Director of International Student Services and Community Outreach also makes him a part of Dr. Peter Bailey’s new international team. In this new position, Aviola is responsible for ensuring adequate services and support for the university’s international students in addition to external partnership development. Aviola was formerly an associate professor and Chair of the Masters in Administration of Justice program in the university’s College of Social and Behavioral Science.

Peninsula Home Care honors physical therapist

On World Physical Therapy Day, Peninsula Home Care at Nanticoke is recognizing a PT as “Outstanding Physical Therapist of the Year.”  This individual was nominated internally by other staff members and all nominations were voted on by a team of PHC leaders and third party volunteers.

Michelle Castronuevo has been practicing physical therapy for eight years and Peninsula Home Care at Nanticoke was the first job she took after coming to the United States in 2015.  She graduated from Brent Colleges in the Philippines in 2007 and after completing her licensure exam she worked for a hospital in the Philippines.  She also worked in an outpatient facility in the Middle East for two years but then returned home to the Philippines to continue working as a physical therapists in the home health care industry.
