Lyons Companies adds managers

Delaware-based Lyons Companies, a risk management brokerage and employee benefits consulting firm, welcomed Mark Hoffmann, CPCU, Commercial Lines Marketing Manager and Senior Account Executive and Jodi Michalcewiz, Private Client Services, Senior Account Manager.

Hoffmann joined the Lyons Companies in July as Commercial Lines Marketing Manager and Senior Account Executive. He works with the production team to secure new business opportunities through policy review, coverage analysis, and carrier broking.  In addition to managing select client accounts, Hoffmann is responsible for commercial strategy, carrier relationships and thought leadership.

He is a 25+ year insurance industry professional, well versed and experienced in all facets of coverages and many industries.  He has worked for regional and national brokers throughout the Mid-Atlantic.  He is a graduate of Penn State University and holds the following designations: CPCU, CRIS (Construction), MLIS (Management Liability), and AFIS (Agribusiness

Michalcewiz, Senior Account Manager, brings over twenty years Client Services team.  As Senior Account Manager, she is responsible for handling the personal insurance and risk management needs of her clients.  Her in-depth knowledge of policy coverage, claims and underwriting guidelines, in addition to established relationships with insurance carrier partners, make her an ideal fit for this role.

Artisans’ Bank adds board member

Artisans’ Bank to announce that Dr. Carlos J. Asarta, Ph.D. of

Kennett Square, PA has recently been elected to the board of directors of Artisans’ Bank. Asarta is an Associate Professor at the University of Delaware in the Department of Economics.  He is also the Director of the Center for Economic Education and Entrepreneurship at the University of Delaware in Newark.  Prior to joining the University of Delaware he spent 6 years at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln as an Assistant Professor of Practice and Associate Professor of Practice.

Asarta is an Associate at the National Center for Research in Economic Education, Secretary of the Delaware Council for Economic Education and Vice President for the Society of Economic Educators. He is also a member of the National Endowment for Financial Education Evaluation Working Group.  His professional awards include the Lerner College Outstanding Teacher Award, University of Delaware Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics, Outstanding Educator of the Year Award, Association of Students of the University of Nebraska and the Abbejean Kehler Technology Award, National Association of Economic Educators and Council for Economic Education.

He holds a B.S. degree in Economics and International Business, an M.A. degree in Economics and a Ph.D. degree in Economics, all from the University of Nebraska -Lincoln.

Beebe Healthcare hires navigator

Beebe Healthcare has hired Carrie Snyder, as the new Nurse Navigator for Women’s Health.

Snyder will be serving as a liaison between Beebe and the community to help community members navigate Beebe’s services. She will be answering questions and helping patients understand what screenings they may need or which physicians they should contact.

Snyder started her nursing career as a Registered Nurse in the Intensive Care Unit at Beebe in 2004 after graduating with her nursing degree from the University of Delaware.  She earned her Masters of Science degree in Nursing from Wilmington University in 2008 and was board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) as a Family Nurse Practitioner.

At that time, she began working as a Family Nurse Practitioner at Beacon Family Practice and Beacon Pediatrics providing primary care for adult and pediatric patients. She returned to Beacon Family Practice with Beebe Medical Group in 2015 after spending time working in Walk-In Care.

She has also served as adjunct faculty at Wilmington University in the Family Nurse Practitioner Program.

Goldey-Beacom College trustee named

Goldey-Beacom College announced the appointment of Noreen D. LaSorsa as a new member of its Board of Trustees, effective July 1.

LaSorsa is the Assistant Superintendent of Instruction for the Christina School District.  With a total of 25 years of experience with the Christina School District, she has served as a teacher, assistant principal, principal and academic change leader. She served twice as principal of Christiana High School, from 2006-2010, and from 2013-2016.

LaSorsa joined the Christina School District in 1989 as a teacher at Drew-Pyle Middle School. She has been an assistant principal at both Kirk Middle School and Newark High School. She joined the Delaware Department of Education from 2010-2014 as the chief officer of the School Turnaround Unit and the Change Leader for Christina School District.

LaSorsa holds a Bachelor’s degree in health and physical education from West Chester University and a Master’s degree in education and administration from Wilmington University.

Allen Harim hires key personnel

Allen Harim has hired several key personnel to oversee the expanded Harbeson poultry processing facility and other departments at the company.

Kevin W. Gordon has been named Plant Manager of the newly expanded Harbeson facility. He comes to Allen Harim with more than 34 years of production management experience. He most recently worked for Pilgrim’s Pride, where he oversaw operations in Athens, Ga., with responsibility for more than 1700 employees. He has also served as plant manager for Mountaire Farms, in North Carolina, and at Cargill. He has a degree in Biology from Appalachian State University

Rory DeWeese has been named Senior Director of Live Operations. He most recently worked at Hubbard, a feed company overseeing customers in the Mid-Atlantic region, and has a 26-year career in a variety of live production roles at various poultry companies, including Pilgrim’s Pride in Russellville, AL., Sanderson Farms in Laurel, MS., and Con Agra Foods in Mayfield, KY. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture.  He will oversee all contract growers, hatcheries, breeders, and feed mills.

Tim Thomas has been named the new Director of Transportation and Strategic Sourcing, and will be working out of Harbeson. He has over 24 years of experience in procurement in the food production industry, having spent most of his career with Pilgrim’s Pride. Most recently he served as Head of Procurement for JBS, the parent company of Pilgrim’s Pride, where he oversaw $2 billion in spending and helped implement programs around the world to make the company more efficient. He has a Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness and Economics from West Texas A&M University.

At Allen Harim, Thomas will oversee all activities of the Procurement department including planning, coordinating, and directing all of the purchasing activities. In addition, he will also be overseeing all areas of the corporation’s Transportation Group.

Tanya Grant has been hired as Corporate Safety and Training Manager and will be based in Harbeson. Her background includes extensive experience improving the performance, productivity and safety of organizations with 2,000-plus employees at both the plant and corporate level in both HR and Operations Management roles. Her previous employers include Sherwin-Williams in Beltsville, MD., Labinol Power Systems in Salisbury, MD., and Baltimore Aircoil Company in Milford, DE.  She has a Master’s of Science in HR Management from Lesley University, and a Doctor of Business Administration from Wilmington University.

Applied Bank names Facciolo to board

Applied Bank announced the appointment of Carmen Facciolo Jr. to Applied Bank’s Board of Directors.

Facciolo currently serves as the President of NAI Emory Hill Real Estate Services, Inc. and Vice President of Emory Hill & Company, the construction division in New Castle, Delaware.  Prior to becoming a partner with Emory Hill in 1983, he was with the Jackson-Cross Company and Facciolo Construction.   Facciolo has also served as NAI Director for Emory Hill Real Estate Services since the company’s affiliation with NAI Global in 1997.

He is a graduate of Widener University where he earned both his undergraduate and MBA degrees.  He is a licensed real estate agent and broker of record in Delaware and New Jersey.

In addition to his role at Applied Bank, Facciolo serves as a board member for Benefits Connections for the New Castle County Chamber of Commerce, the Commercial-Industrial Realty Council and the Mary Campbell Center, as President and also serves on the golf committee for the prestigious annual Charmie Welch Open golf fundraiser.

Additionally, he is a member and serves a number of professional affiliations including SIOR, Tri-State Commercial-Industrial Realtors, New Castle County Board of Realtors and National Association of Realtors.  Facciolo was the former Chairman of the New Castle County Chamber of Commerce and the New Castle County Economic Development Council.

Delaware Division  hires Briggs

Sara Briggs joined the staff of the Delaware Division of Historical and Cultural Affairs’ State Historic Preservation Office as an architectural historian. She is based at the division’s main office located at 21 The Green in Dover.

Briggs’ responsibilities at the division include conducting cultural-resource reviews of federally funded or permitted projects for Section 106 compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act for historical and architectural properties; providing coordination services with state designated certified local governments; and oversight of division-held historic-preservation easements including monitoring and enforcement of easement provisions,

technical assistance to property owners and negotiation and completion of new easements.

Briggs holds a master’s degree in urban affairs and public policy with a concentration in historic preservation from the University of Delaware where she also earned certificates in museum studies and human-subjects training. She holds a bachelor’s degree in interior design from the Savannah College of Art and Design.

Her varied work experience includes service as a consulting architectural historian and projects manager for several private companies; as collections manager and research assistant for the University of Delaware’s Center for Historic Architecture and Design; as an exhibit designer and curator of collections for the Historical Society of Delaware; as collections-management curator for the Andrew Low House in Savannah, Ga.; and as site supervisor for the division’s John Dickinson Plantation where she worked from 2001 to 2002. Briggs is the author of “Images of America: Forty Acres” about the Wilmington neighborhood where she lives.

Verizon Wireless president named

Verizon Wireless has appointed Kevin Zavaglia as president of its Northeast Market. Based at the company’s market headquarters in Morristown, New Jersey, Zavaglia will oversee all business functions  across the 10-state market including New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine,  Rhode Island, western Pennsylvania and northern Delaware.

Previously, Zavaglia served as President of the company’s New York Metro Region. Prior to that, he led Verizon Enterprise Solutions’ North America. During his 22-year career at Verizon, Zavaglia has led the Northern California Region for Verizon Wireless and served as director of business, retail and indirect sales in the New York Metro Region.

Broadpoint Construction hires two

Broadpoint Construction, Rehoboth Beach,  announced the hiring of two professionals.

Ryan Mitchell has joined the company as Director of Commercial Project Management. In this role, he will lead the company’s commercial construction projects and leverage his extensive large-scale project experience to enhance Broadpoint’s commercial capabilities. Mitchell brings more than a decade of commercial construction project management, estimating and value engineering to the firm, most recently with Nason Construction.

Gary Harris, an industry veteran project superintendent. As a superintendent, he will oversee on-site construction activities for major commercial projects for the company. Harris has more than 25 years of commercial experience, including building numerous hotels and apartment complexes throughout the region.
