The University of Delaware’s Alfred Lerner College of  Business and Economics reported  record growth in both student and faculty numbers.

In its  fall session,  Lerner College   hit  milestones, enrolling for the first time more than 3,000 undergraduate and 1,000 graduate students. A total of 3,016 undergraduate students and 1,080 graduate students are enrolled.

“We feel that these enrollments show that we are meeting the Lerner College goal of developing distinctive educational opportunities that provide the knowledge and managerial skills required for our students to be successful in a highly competitive marketplace,” Lerner College Dean Bruce Weber stated in a release.

The college operates in a highly competitive area along the I-95  corridor that includes    the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Maryland College Park and others.

The college has worked to carve out a niche in areas such as analytics, entrepreneurial studies through the Horn Program  and online MBA programs that are taught by faculty.

The  Lerner College also announced the hiring of 10 new faculty members from a variety of  institutions including:

Laura Field, finance, from Penn State University and UCLA

Fei Xie, finance, from Clemson University and Vanderbilt University

Amanda Convery, accounting and MIS, from the University of Wisconsin

Gang Wang, accounting and MIS, from the University of Connecticut

Xiao Fang, accounting and MIS, from the University of Utah and the University of Arizona

Kathryn Berkow, accounting, and MIS, From Morgan Stanley and Co. and SUNY-Stony Brook

Kyle Emich, business administration, from Fordham and Cornell universities

Sabrin Beg, economics, from Yale University

Christine Storrie, economics, from the University of Delaware

Desmond Toohey, economics, from the University of Michigan

“Our new faculty members are making immediate contributions teaching innovative, new courses and becoming research collaborators and leaders within

their departments and the Lerner College,” Weber said. After serving for more than six years in the role, Rick Andrews stepped out of the deputy dean position in Lerner College effective Sept. 1, and returned to faculty duties, oversight of AACSB Accreditation and the Lerner College’s International Programs.

During the 2015-16 academic year, Jack Baroudi will serve as acting deputy dean and retain his role as associate dean of the Lerner College’s Graduate and MBA Programs.
