Catholic Schools Week
This year, for Catholic Schools Week, we honor the commitment to the H2O for Life initiative that we started last fall with the visit of Katie Spotz and an initial collection. We are supporting a project to build a well for a school in Nicaragua. Our goal is to raise $2,000; so far, we have raised $1,033. Here is how you can help:
You can find 4 collection jars – one for each grade – on the staff table during lunches. You are encouraged to bring in donations (cash, change, checks) throughout the week. The goal is to collect the LEAST amount of money for your class by putting your donations into another class’s jar. The class with the LEAST amount collected by Friday will win an out of uniform day in February. We had a slow start during lunches yesterday and early results show the class in the lead to win an out of uniform day is 11th grade (the class in last place is 10th grade). Crack open your piggy banks, ask your grandma for a check, hit up your boss.
If we, as a school community, collect $2,000 or more, we will receive another late start day before the end of the school year. Don’t forget to bring in your donations!!!
Out of Uniform
Today’s out of uniform day is Ugly Sweater Day. Nothing says “hello winter” like an old, ugly sweater. The older and uglier, the better.
Tomorrow’s out of uniform day is Any Decade Day. It’s history day (sort of). Dress from any period in history! You can be a caveman, a medieval knight, a founding father, an 80’s pop star, or whatever else strikes your fancy. Go back in time and pick your favorite era!
Go Snow Tubing at Theodore Wirth
Join us as we go snow tubing at Theodore Wirth tomorrow after school. Put on your snow pants and tube down some fun hills with your friends! Buses leave De at 3:45pm and return at 6:45pm. You must ride the bus to and from, if you plan to go. Click here to sign up if you want to go tubing (you must be logged in to your Student Apps account). Please remember to bring $6 with you to pay for the tubing.
Annual Blood Drive
Students who are 16 and older can now sign up in the Main Office to donate blood Friday. All sign ups must be completed by Wednesday at 3pm. Students age 16 must have a signed permission form on file from their parents in order to be eligible to donate blood. All students 16+ must meet the height and weight requirements. Students under the age of 16 are not eligible to donate. Please see Ms. Weeks with questions.
Prayer Service Thursday
We will gather for a prayer service after 1st hour Thursday to celebrate Catholic Schools Week and to promote our partnership with H2O For Life. We welcome Deacon Mickey Friesen as our presider. Lasallian Ministry will not gather on this day due to the liturgy.

While you are waiting for someone else to conserve water.......we are running out of water!
You can do something right now. Read the following tips and find one you can commit to doing this week. We’ll be asking you about it on Thursday
When washing hands, turn off the water while you lather.
Time your shower, try to keep it under five minutes.
Turn off the water while you brush your teeth.
Use cold water in your washing machine and only run full loads
Use a reusable water bottle!
Put plastic bottles filled with sand in your toilet tank to decrease the water volume you are flushing.
Only run your dishwasher when it’s full.
Invest in a rain barrel.
Every time you flush the toilet 5-7 gallons of water is used. Only flush when necessary and don’t use the toilet as a trash can by putting kleenex, small trash in it.

Cheese 'n Crackers with the Counselors
Parents, please join the college advising staff tonight from 6:30-7:30pm to learn more about Naviance, our web-based college planning tool. You will learn what it is, and how your student will use it in their post high school planning process throughout their high school career. We will take you on a virtual tour of the college readiness and college planning tasks within Nanviance and let you know how you can support your student with this tool as they progress through the college planning process. We will have cheese and crackers and beverages. All are welcome.
Lobby for More Renewable Energy in Minnesota
Make your voice heard in state government and help lobby for a 40% renewable energy standard in Minnesota by 2030. You are invited to come to Minnesota Environmental Lobby Day at the State Capitol on Monday, February 2. Sign up here. Contact Kumar Flower Kay for more information. In the morning, learn more about this issue and how to speak to your legislator in an effective way. Then you will meet with your state senator and representative to talk to them about this issue and any other issues that are important to you. After a free lunch, you can participate in a youth-only, youth-led meeting with Governor Dayton to speak to him directly about the issues that matter to us as young people. This is a great opportunity that doesn’t come around often!

Suggest the 2015-16 Scripture Theme
You can help pick the Scripture theme for the next school year. Email Mr. Lieske with your suggestion for the Scripture theme by next Friday along with a brief explanation about why you chose the Scripture theme you did. You can also suggest the theme through any of your teachers or by dropping it off in the Administration Office.
Join Lasallian Youth Gathering
Earn Christian Service hours while connecting with students from other Lasallian schools this summer at the Lasallian Youth Gathering in Chicago. The 2015 gathering, from June 21-26, focuses on the theme “Seeing with the Eyes of Faith” and is filled with keynote speakers, small faith sharing groups, engaging activities, service projects, and city day. The gathering costs $350 per person; you may pay an extra $15 if you want a linen packet that includes bed linens and towels. There will also be a travel fee depending on how many students decide to participate. You will receive 30 service hours for this trip. Stop by the Lasallian Ministry office to pick up registration materials. Registration, including a $50 deposit, is due on May 1.
Islanders Advance in USA Today Basketball Contest
The Islander boys’ basketball team has moved on to the next round in USA Today’s contest to find the best basketball program in the country. The top vote getter from each of the eight regions, plus two wild cards, will advance to the national round. You can vote here as many times as you want through Thursday.
Prayer Service for Life
You are invited to a prayer service for life at Lumen Christi Catholic Church (2055 Bohland Ave., St. Paul) on Thursday at 7:00pm. Meet in the chapel for scripture readings, Mass, and prayer. A social with refreshments will follow.
Volunteers Needed
On President’s Day, Monday, February 16, DeLaSalle will be the site for the 3rd annual Missing Voices: Equity in Education Summit. Sponsored by St. Mary’s University, this gathering is focused on bringing together youth, parents and educators to engage in dialogue and creative problem solving surrounding the inequities and gaps in our educational system. We are seeking 15 students who can serve as hosts for our guests as well as conference participants. If you are interested and able to participate, please e-mail Ms. Hodapp for more details. Some Christian Service Hours will be awarded.
