About our Co-creation Center

Our co-creation Centre was developed within Unilever Personal Care with the intention to create a game changing approach and process for ideation and co-creation, in order to deliver bigger better faster initiatives and breakthrough innovations.

Through co-creation the new Centre offers marketers and other functions an experience inspired by design and creativity.

Our Centre is operated by an experienced team of beauty insiders and a management team experienced in leading some of the world’s biggest personal care brands.

We are searching for an experienced design manager, a creative leader who will manage and mentor a team of in-house designers, supplemented by a network of freelance creative professionals, that they will help to shape and develop.

The Job: Senior Design Manager:

As the Senior Design Manager, you will be responsible for leading, defining and shaping design at the Centre.

You will lead, oversee, and define best practices for organizing and creating processes and shaping cutting-edge design experiences.

You will also lead in building an in-house creative team, whilst also shaping and forging external creative relationships

Specifically:

Lead design activities, as well as in-context design technical capabilities. Oversee and provide leadership for all 2D and 3D design needs.

Effectively plan the design requirements of all workshops, partnering with brand teams and Creative Centre leadership to build the perfect creative agenda.

Identify opportunities to create value and improve the design experience; organize and exploit opportunities to create visually compelling designed environments.

Co-develop and deliver impactful design training on behalf of the Personal Care organisation.

Partner with complimentary internal and external experts (e.g. trends, consumer insights, R&D teams) to increase the impact of design delivery within the co-creation centre.

Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Drive the development of the design team, reconcile technical and creative needs; execute top-down structure, build design knowhow from the ground up.

Operate as a Design facilitator within workshops. Co-ordinating design activity and output across the Unilever team and external creative partners.

Work in close partnership with co-creation staff in London and New York to drive a single design agenda underpinned by open communication, sharing of learnings, and smart resourcing.

Socially connected. Linked to the London creative network and plugged into other European design hubs. Able to create fantastic opportunities to engage the creative community, beyond “rules”, creating connections that evolve design in a way that is constantly being rewritten.

An eye for beauty, attention to detail and perfection

Experienced. You will lead a creative team and develop leading edge design thinkers. You are knowledgeable in trends with an awareness of beauty/luxury brands. You are keenly aware of fashion, architecture, interior design, Art and any adjacent industries where beauty and design can be expressed.

Experience:

The Senior Design Manager must have a deep understanding of front-end concept development, brand strategy, and an interest in experience design. You will be working with multi-disciplinary teams in the development of high impact creative solutions and innovative brand design.

Bachelor's degree in design-related discipline: Industrial Design; Graphic Design; Communications; Design Innovation.

Solid verbal communication skills, with experience presenting to all levels of clients and co-workers

Well versed in studio based design methods and traditional design techniques.

Must be prepared and capable in sketching ideas and expressing visual concepts.

Must be experienced in a client-facing role, have project experience working with teams on varied creative projects.

Ability to gracefully handle multiple activities in a fast-paced and at times stressful environment.

Proven leadership in leading creative teams along with ability to work as one of the team, in a very diverse team

Some web design experience a plus
