JOB TITLE: Specialist Artisan Mechanical

MAIN JOB PURPOSE:

The Mechanical Specialist is a Preventative Maintenance and Focused Improvement specialist engaged to optimise the running and maintenance of equipment within the factory.

Where breakdowns occur the Mechanical specialist will act to diagnose and troubleshoot faults and where necessary will recommend design improvements.

The Mechanical specialist is responsible for the quality of information and screening of breakdown analysis cards.

She/he is also intimately involved with setting the Maintenance Strategy for the respective production area.

The Mechanical specialist is professionally competent and qualified to operate safely at a post apprentice level in the mechanical field.

She/he must be a mentally agile and advanced problem solver actively engaged in maintaining a safe work environment, which protects product quality and reduces waste and other environmental impact.

A positive contributor to the factory



s work environment and culture, the specialist will act as a leading coach and mentor to the Technical Operator around the areas of mechanical engineering and World Class Maintenance techniques.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Mechanical skills; knowledge and application of technical skills and expertise to ensure the provision of effective engineering support within team, focused on delivering performance targets.

Directly contributes to improved safety, quality, sustainability and cost.

Preventative Maintenance Specialist and user of Condition Based Monitoring

Fully Operational on mechanical trade. Mean time between failures (MTBF) will directly sit within his /her designated area of responsibility. She/he is responsible for the data capturing and history of breakdowns, stoppages as well as the verifying of accuracy of information supplied .He/She will lead the problem solving teams in his/her respected area.

He/she will be responsible for all engineering standards. He/she will develop the AM standards and OPL’s for their designated area. He/she will develop training manuals for all Mechanical equipment in his/her designated area. The mechanical specialist will conduct PJO’s and based on the outcome he will do recommendations for training of Operators and Artisans training needs.

The mechanical specialist would be responsible for ensuring that all critical spares are loaded to SAP and kept in the main stores.

Safety - Utilize appropriate safety and environmental procedures for people, processes, materials, products and equipment to ensure a safe working environment for the whole team.

Environment - Reduce costs due to waste and minimise impact to health, safety and the environment through working to eliminate waste and through the correct management of waste and hazardous materials.

Quality - ensure that all aspects of Quality within the area of responsibility are in accordance with local Quality procedures to protect and promote the brand and product.

Leadership - Promote the development of a highly effective team through strong communication, leading by example whilst keeping focused on goals and targets.

Continuous Improvement - Use performance measures to identify and prioritise losses in production area.

Apply rigorous Cost Deployment and the Zero loss concept to eliminate losses.

WCM - knowledge and understanding of the key principles of WCM and the impact this has on the Key Performance Indicators in the production area (PQSCDMI); must understand the critical inter-relation between WCM and TPM.

Problem Solving - has the ability to identify, prioritise and address problems using appropriate tools and techniques that eliminate recurrence.

He /she will need to remove and replace major electrical components (such as motors, switch/control gear) and troubleshoot electrical circuits safely. Able to isolate machinery and re-install electrical supplies for machinery components

Establish power distribution systems and electrical control circuits

Install electrical drive systems and Control Loops

Instrumentation and control skills: Demonstrate an understanding of the Internal Architecture of Programme Logic Control (PLC) and Distributed Control Systems (DCS); their Applications and Knowledge of the Number Systems they use.

Amend control and software documentation.

Manage PLC and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition Networks (e.g. Programme modifications, Force Devices and fault finding).

Would be required to do Fault finding using a laptop and Siemens software.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

N4 Mechanical/ Electrical

5 years experience working either in packaging/ making in manufacturing environment

Experience of manufacturing in a Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) Company and World Class Manufacturing would be advantageous

Must have extensive experience in leading projects/ have a vital role from start to finish

Proficient fault finding to route cause experience is essential

Required to support report writing, data analysis, problem solving, mechanical calculations, leadership and coaching skills

Must be flexible within pattern of shift work to accommodate factory shutdowns, training courses etc and emergency cover

Valid drivers license and own vehicle
