Our Vermont Manufacturing team is currently looking for a Technology, Innovation & Manufacturing (TIM) Engineer to support manufacturing projects in our St. Albans, VT location.
Position Summary:
This TIM Engineering role is essentially responsible for being the subject matter expert on all Ben & Jerry’s equipment processes and specifically owns equipment set-up and process capability for new product launches.
Additionally, this Engineer will act as the technical coach and resource for the site operations teams, specifically the Focused Improvement and Early Equipment Management project teams.
Duties & Responsibilities:
New product development
·
Participate in the technical risk assessment for new equipment item needed for new products
·
Understand product design and material specification and how those relate to the local manufacturing situation
·
Work with R&D, SCIM and Brand to highlight and mitigate any risks from product design
·
Collaborate with Manufacturing Support Specialist to eliminate any risks resulting from new product innovation
Technical delivery of new product trials
·
Collaborate with R&D to design the trial and ensure that capability exists to perform the trial as designed
·
Attend trials, perform trouble-shooting during the trial
·
Record whatever data and outcomes are relevant to determining success
·
Own jointly the determination of pass/fail
·
Own the supply chain part of the trial report
·
Own trial actions as related to technology and process
Additional duties
·
Create manufacturing and operational solutions to innovation or process needs
·
Document, train and roll out those processes so developed
·
Identify process improvement opportunities and utilize appropriate problem solving tools to create a solution, apply technical experience, develop and implement a project
Requirements:
·
Must have Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline
·
Minimum of two years of related engineering experience is required; hygienic processing and/or Ice Cream experience is a plus
·
Must have strong experience in project management, particularly in planning, scheduling and cost control including:
·
Equipment scoping and specification
·
Team-lead solution development
·
EEM process lead
·
CAR development
·
Writing and submission
·
Focus on budget delivery, OTIF, customer delivery
·
Project close out, post launch evaluation and asset allocation
·
Technical and supervisory experience in a combination of electrical, electronic, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, instrumentations, automation, and/or computer fields required
·
Must have the ability to read, develop, and change schematic diagrams, equipment and architectural drawings
·
Operational competency in MS Office Suite, MS Project, AutoCAD is required
·
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to present findings and rationales clearly for a variety of audiences, including non-technical ones
·
Ability to collaborate seamlessly with other team members, at all levels of the organization, who may be different from you and resolve conflicts is an absolute requirement
·
Must demonstrate flexibility in approach to constant changes in direction, demands and project scope
·
Comfort with a high degree of uncertainty on many projects, all being managed at one time is required
·
Must be a self-starter and have obvious enthusiasm, initiative, and pride in work
·
Ability to clearly understand equipment and system operating principles and establish correct operating standards while visualizing clearly what the ideal production system is required
·
Must have implicit understanding of best practice of all relevant aspects of Hygienic Equipment Design as it applies to dairy processing in an ice cream setting
·
Thorough and demonstrable understanding of the Health, Safety and Environmental practices is required
·
Must be capable of technology development and application as well as problem solving
·
Knowledge in the operation of pumps, mixers, valves, control instrumentation and a working understanding of computers and electronics used in the process industry is required
·
Understanding of the tools, techniques and implementation of WCM; Process Safety Management; and Ammonia Refrigeration a plus
·
Must be flexible to work within a pattern of 7 day shift operation to accommodate plant trials, factory shut-downs, training courses etc
