Job Purpose:

The Shift Engineer is responsible for using the appropriate TPM tools to maintain and improve the performance of the Factory in line with KPI targets. Speed of response is vital. You will be required to use your engineering knowledge and fault finding skills to identify and rectify faults and issues that occur within the factory in an effective and safe manner.

Key areas of Accountability:

Health, Safety and the Environment • Adhering to safety standards, rules and emergency procedures and contributing to the development of a safety culture. • Identify and report health or safety hazards & dangerous situations. • Perform and document risk assessment.

If no RA exists then complete assessment and inform the leader. This would require further training and support and the involvement of COSHH. • Encourages ALL to behave in a safe manner.

Quality • Ensure equipment is able to manufacture products in accordance with quality procedures and standards to achieve the required product quality targets at minimal waste levels by analysing and eliminating all defects in conjunction with the operator. • Take immediate actions to rectify identified quality issues; ensuring zero quality defects by analyzing and eliminating all defects. • Identify quality critical control points; ensure they are monitored and maintained using good visual management. • Record all quality data as required and any non-conformance following Consumer Relevant Quality Standards procedures,

Customer Service

• Continually review performance against plan, take appropriate corrective action if required with a view to increasing overall factory efficiencies. • Anticipate and react quickly to problems in order to avoid impact to customer service. • Identify and implement agreed improvement opportunities to increase the production line flexibility.

Continuous Improvement & Workplace Organisation • Ensure area is clean and well organised at all times in adherence to 5S (Workplace Organisation Standards) • Contribute to the continuous improvement culture through active participation in continuous improvement tools and techniques (WCM) in order to identify and restore faults and abnormalities.

Cost • Ensure that equipment is generating minimum waste and give-away. • Identify improvements in order to reduce Cost, Waste and Energy.

Autonomous Maintenance • Understand and participate in the Factory AM master plan. • Support as required AM activities, tagging, lubricating, deep cleaning, OPL’s, Audits and elimination of contamination and hard to access areas.

Effective Maintenance • Participate in the maintenance planning for the factory including PM briefs and debriefs. Ensuring that all work is risk assessed, and the required tasks occur. • Look to reduce frequency and time of all AM and PM maintenance through improvements and reviewing the teams Maintenance activities.

• Report breakdowns, where required to identify the root cause, eliminate the problem and fix forever using countermeasures. • Ensure effective two way communication with Focussed Technicians, breakdowns analysis, losses, details of improvements, and transfer of required specialist machine knowledge. • Carry out troubleshooting and repair unexpected equipment stoppages, ensuring permanent/long term repair is scheduled if required.

Focused Improvement • Monitor Factory loss tree for loss patterns and take action to improve by understanding principles of equipment, analyse loss phenomenon and plan to eliminate these losses by eliminating the root cause using the appropriate FI tools. Fix forever by using the appropriate countermeasures e.g. updating the AM or PM standards, Operating procedures, creating OPL’s or requesting training.

Qualifications & Experience

Minimum education level:

• A qualified apprenticeship • A

multi-skilled engineering background (e.g. mechanical, electrical) • GCSEs, O-levels or equivalent in Maths, English, Science • A strong preference for technical subjects (e.g. Physics)

Desired previous experiences: • Experience working with machinery

• Processes where Continuous Improvement has been used

• Experience in finding the root cause of a problem and fixing it
