I’m so excited to announce a new partnership with Goodwill Industries of Western New York! You probably know Goodwill as the popular thrift store chain, where DIY-ers like us do lots and lots of shopping. Now, my local Goodwill and I are teaming up to teach people how to DIY and turn the treasures from the Goodwill retail stores into something beautiful for their home! Here is what our partnership is all about.

DIY Section in Stores

Each of Goodwill’s 11 retail store locations in Western New York now has a dedicated DIY section with many of the items that can be repurposed into useful and unique items along with many of the supplies needed to complete DIY projects.  That means people can shop for what they need to make either what they’re inspired by or make one of the featured projects (below).

This is one DIY section in their recently renovated store in West Seneca, New York. Each store will have handouts with a link to Decor Adventures so shoppers can find out about the featured projects too.

Featured Projects

Every few months I’ll be inspiring shoppers to remake their Goodwill finds by writing a post about how to make a specific project. These finished items, will then be featured in the store for shoppers to buy.  The partnership provides Goodwill’s customers with a cost-effective way to design unique items while helping the environment at the same time.

The current featured project will be chalkboard picture frames where you can learn how to turn an old frame into a functional chalkboard for your home. Come back and see the full post on how to make one tomorrow.

Special Events and Workshops

Every once in a while, we’ll also be doing special events. This week is actually Goodwill week, where they “celebrate the power of work through events and promotions.”

On Saturday, May 10th from 11-2 Goodwill of Western New York will host an event, “DIY-ing for Goodwill”, at the Tonawanda store in the Colvin- Eggert Plaza at 3177 Eggert Road. The event will feature demonstrations by local artisans including screen printed shirts by Buffalo DIY, repurposed wood projects by Wrafterbuilt, glass terrariums by Sylvatica and repurposed silver items from LS Metals. I’ll be the special guest at the event so if you live locally, please come see me!

Isn’t this so exciting! What I get to do next is come up with more projects to make from Goodwill finds and we are even planning to host workshops at Home Depot so you can come learn how to make these projects too! Stay tuned for more information on that.

All of this information you can find on the Goodwill page here in the blog. Find it under the About tab off the home page, and on the sidebar.

See you soon friends!

P.S. Come see me today at Pretty Handy Girl where I’m showing you how to make an old sign from a foot board. Sounds like the next featured project right?
