e-Tickets can be cancelled from IRCTC website till Chart Preparation of the Train.

But, first Check PNR Status of Your IRCTC Reservation and if you think that Your ticket won’t get Confirmed till Chart Preparation of the Train or If your planned Journey is Cancelled then you can Go for Cancellation of your Train Ticket.

Note: e-Ticket Cancellation is not allowed from Railway Ticket Counter.

Check Following Conditions for Cancellation .

For General Reservations :

Condition 1: If a Confirmed ticket is Cancelled

# before Chart preparation of the Train :

Note: Note the Chart preparation time is the time for the chart preparation from the Train Originating Station or from the previous chart Preparation station.

1. More than 48 hrs before the scheduled departure of the train then flat cancellation charges shall be deducted

Rs.240/- for AC First Class/Executive Class,

Rs.200/- for AC 2 Tier/First Class,

Rs. 180 for AC 3 Tier/AC Chair car/ AC 3 Economy,

Rs.120/- for Sleeper Class and

Rs.60/- for Second Class

2. Within 48 hrs and up to 12 hours before the scheduled departure of the train then cancellation charges shall be 25% of the fare subject to the minimum flat rate

3. Less than 12 hours and up to 4 hours before the scheduled departure of the train or up to chart preparation which is earlier, 50% of the fare paid subject to the minimum cancellation charges.

# after Chart preparation of the Train:

E-tickets cannot be cancelled after chart preparation but you can file TDR online for Refund.

No refund of fare shall be admissible on e-ticket having confirmed reservation in case the request for refund is filed online after two hours of the actual departure of the train.

No refund of fare shall be admissible on RAC e-tickets in case the request for refund is filed online after three hours of the actual departure of the train.

In case on a party e-ticket or a family e-ticket issued for travel of more than one person, some persons have confirmed reservation and others are on the list of RAC and waiting list, then in case of passengers on RAC or waitlisted not travelling, a certificate has to be obtained from the ticket checking staff to that effect and refund of fare shall be processed online through TDR, indicating the details of the certificate issued by ticket checking staff.

Condition 2: Waitlisted Normal Ticket

If your online ticket is in Waiting List even after Chart Prepared then it will get cancelled automatically & Charges will be deducted as per existing Railway rules. You will get remaining amount refunded in your account.

So, When chart is Prepared ?

The chart is usually prepared 4 hour before the departure time for the train whose departure time is after 12 noon.

For trains having departure time up to 12 noon, the chart is prepared last night.

For Tatkal Reservations :

Condition 3: If Confirmed Talkal Ticket is Cancelled:

No refund for cancellation of Confirmed Tatkal tickets booked as e-Tickets .

Condition 4: Waitlisted Tatkal ticket

If your online ticket is in Waiting List even after Chart Prepared then it will get cancelled automatically & Charges will be deducted as per existing Railway rules. You will get remaining amount refunded in your account.

Condition 5: Cancellation of e-tickets in case of train cancelled

If the train is marked as “CANCELLED” in PRS due to breaches, floods, accidents etc. full refund is permissible in case the ticket is cancelled within 3 days of the scheduled departure of the train.
