Welcome! Today I am excited about sharing some NEW Spellbinders Paper Arts die templates from the Winter 2014 Diamond Anniversary release: Birds on a Wire (IN-024) and Celebration (IN-012), both used below. Not only do I get to show them to you, but (here's the exciting part) Spellbinders is also giving away the two new die template sets that I have used here today, as well as the new die template sets used on other sneak peek blogs this week and a fabulous grand prize! Be sure to look at the end of the post for more details and instructions on how to enter the giveaway.
Becca Feeken of Amazing Paper Grace is the other
Day One Sneak Peek person--don't miss her post
and a chance to win there too!
First I have a card to share, along with some stepped out instructions. Card size is 5" x 7".
I die-cut and embossed Birds on a Wire on white cardstock, then airbrushed them with Copic markers and airbrush system, leaving my die in place as a stencil. (I used one extra cut of the bottom row of birds on my card as well.)
Next I used a Graduated Dots M-Bossabilities™ Folder to add texture to my Sweet Blush cardstock before using an A-2 Matting Basics A (#5) die template to cut a window in that front panel. The pink cardstock shown above was larger than 5 x 7 because I needed to place a smaller, white card base window just beneath it, nested perfectly inside; and I thought that it would probably be simpler to cut the pink layer down to size after I had the layers stacked perfectly. (You might be able to just measure carefully instead of doing it this way, but this worked for me.)
I used a smaller (#5) A-2 Matting Basics B die template to cut a window in my 5" x 7" white card base front layer. To get my matting measurement the same all the way around on my pink card front layer, I taped it to the card base using washi tape (a very low tack tape), then lightly pencilled in the outline of the white card base on the back. Next I untaped the two layers and trimmed 1/16" inside my pencilled line.
Here you can see my pink front layer cut to the correct size, with the white layer just beneath it. I glued the Birds on a Wire cuts to the white cardstock on either end after I had determined where I wanted each line of birds. My pink front layer will cover any glue spots that might otherwise show. I had originally airbrushed the Celebration thank you sentiment, but I decided that the color was a bit much and that I liked plain white better. I combined two different sentiments because I liked the thin, delicate line of the smaller "you" and thought that it tied in well with the thin wire that the birds sat on.
Here is a close up of my card front. If you wanted to, it would be simple enough to put a layer of cover-weight vellum in the window opening to give you more options for writing on the inside of the card. Quick tip: When I am making a 5" x 7" card with a fold on the 5" end, I cut two pieces of cardstock, one 5" x 7-1/2", scored at 1/2" (back of card base), and one 5" x 7" (card front). I then either glue or use a super sticky tape to attach that little 1/2" strip on the card back to the top of the card front. You don't really notice it, and it allows you to use standard sized cardstock to get a 5" x 7" card base hinged on the short side. I dyed my white seam binding with Copic re-inkers to coordinate with my cardstock, leaving a few variations in shade for interest.
