“Where I Stand” Autographed Copy by John Lee Clark
“Where I Stand” is a collection of essays by John Lee Clark about the
signing community and his experience as a DeafBlind man. Filled with
startling observations and unapologetic assertions, it challenges and
broadens readers’ understanding of an important but often overlooked
community.
Statements from the book:
“I love being DeafBlind and would not change it for the world.”
“Disability is everywhere. It is, in fact, universal, for to be human is
to be disabled.”
“It’s an exciting time to be DeafBlind.”

A DEAF STUDENT’S BAD LUCK
A deaf student is the only deaf student in a
big hearing college.
For months he thought he was the only deaf person
that knew ASL.
Suddenly, on the last day of the college semester
he bumped into a hearing student that was fluent in
ASL. They were able to chat in ASL and the deaf student
was thrilled – but it was his bad luck.
The hearing student was going to graduate and that
meant the deaf student will never see him again!

A DEAF FATHER AND A HEARING SON
When parents are deaf, some children learn signs;
some other children don’t learn signs.
There are some Codas that wish to learn signs.
Why didn’t they learn signs from their deaf parents?
Because the deaf parents refuse to teach them signs!

Deaf Question of the Week:
Q. What police should always assume first?

happened had the officer assumed he was deaf first,
not assumed he was hearing.

Vlog
Vlogging is very popular within the Deaf community.
For those who are not familiar with this, a Vlog is a short video via ASL.
For sighted Deaf, a Vlog is typically more accessible than a blog,
which is typed in text.
For us with low vision, like myself, is getting difficult to “read” ASL.
Recently, I viewed some important Vlogs and, to my surprise, this
was doable for me!
This person used white gloves and signed in ASL with good dark clothing.
Also he was also close to the camera, meaning he is full screen.
I was able to follow! So follow Vloggers, give white gloves a try!
