Top stories about the deaf:

The City of St. Catharines in Ontario will have its

city council meetings captioned.

The deaf of Nova Scotia will finally have their own

emergency 911 text system. Nova Scotia now follows

the provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba

and Ontario with this such system.

It was announced that the enrollment at the

Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind is dropping.

State officials are worried about it, inasmuch as

they made huge investment in upgrading the school

facilities.

Hugh Blackwell, not deaf, made a campaign promise

if he was re-elected as North Carolina House District

legislator. It was to help North Carolina School

for the Deaf, and he said he will honor this promise.

There was a bitter debate about allowing cyclists to

wear headphones while cycling – for safety reasons.

A point raised is that if cyclists cannot hear because

of loud music while cycling, then it is the same thing

with deaf cyclists who cannot hear at all! This

debate took place in London.

What is a bad deaf habit? When a hearing person

HEARING PEOPLE HATE TO SIT NEXT TO DEAF PEOPLE AT DINNER

Many hearing people hate to six next to deaf people

at dining table. Why?

Because deaf people make noise while chewing on their

food.

Why deaf people know nothing about it? Because hearing

people are polite and don’t want to insult the deaf!

Rene Pellerin’s Corner:

I am currently contracted with Perkins to do outreach

work for Vermont.

It is the National Deaf-Blind Equipment Distribution

Program (NDBEDP).

Every state has one all across the USA. It is the 3rd year

of this pilot project.

It struck me that I am having a hard time finding

referrals!

I realized that human service agencies “misinterpret”

Deaf-Blind.

Well, I need to switch gears and start educating agencies

about who we are looking for.

I want people who have both hearing and vision issues to have

access to specialized equipment!

This does not mean that you must be totally deaf and totally

blind!
