Top stories about the deaf:
The Gibraltar Hearing Impaired Association has hosted
a conference, in conjunction with the Ministry of Equality, Social Services and the Elderly to explain how the
deaf and the government agencies can work together.
The tug of war between parents of the deaf and the
Hamburg School District (Pennsylvania) has
continued over classroom interpreters. Because no
one could agree, the parents will be filing a formal
complaint with the state authorities.
The town of Liege in Belgium will be providing
sign language interpreters for the benefit of
the deaf in the court room. It is not known which
sign language will be used because this town is
divided between French-speaking and German-speaking
people.
The Philadelphia Police is reaching out to the Deaf
Community in an effort to improve relations and
communications.
The Deaf World Library and Museum, based at Utah Valley University would be the biggest resource of on-line
Deaf Culture material, according to plans outlined by
Bryan Eldredge, the director of the American Sign Language and Deaf Studies. This department won a grant from the
Institute of Museum and Library Service for this purpose.

A LEADER WITH SECRET DEAFNESS?
Do we have a leader – such as a Senator or a big
corporate CEO or a famous TV person – that is deaf
but keeps it a secret?
President Roosevelt was in a wheelchair but ran
USA for 3 terms until he died. No one really knew
he was in a wheelchair!
So, maybe there are big and powerful leaders that
are secretly deaf?
