Top stories about the deaf:
Rochester School for the Deaf has selected four
individuals to serve on the board of directors -
Judy Annis-Donovan, Lori DeWindt, Scott Smith
and Philip Wise.
A newspaper story has explained the role of the
former Governor Baxter School for the Deaf
(Maine) and its replacement agency, the Maine
Educational Center for the Deaf and Hard of
Hearing. The mission is similar to missions
in South Dakota and North Dakota – to provide
educational opportunities for deaf children
statewide.
Robot nurses in a hospital serving real live
patients? It is happening in China. Could it
serve deaf patients? No, unless the robots
use sign language.
A recent court ruling in Venezuela affirmed
deaf people’s employment rights under the
Disabled Person’s Law.
The FCC Consumer Advisory Committee has
instructed the FCC to develop guidelines
for agencies to reach the deaf in case
of emergencies (flood, hurricanes,
earthquakes, etc).

Many hearing people complain that many restaurants

A NEW HEARING EMPLOYEE’S BIG MISTAKE
A new hearing employee was hired. Her desk was next
to a deaf person’s desk. They became friends very fast.
But the hearing employee made a big mistake. As a
result, both employees are not friends any more.
Why? The new employee was confused about deaf
employee’s work assignment, and complained very loudly
for 15 minutes with the supervisor, without telling
the deaf employee about it. He had to find out from
the supervisor what this screaming and yelling was
all about!
The deaf employee felt very insulted about it.

YOU ARE DEAF AND ARE BREAKING THE LAW IF:
You are riding an airplane over the Alaskan skies and
spot moose running on the grounds. It is against the law to watch
them from the skies.
While this law applies equally to hearing and deaf alike, many
deaf people are visually perceptive and if they spot a moose on
the grounds, they will point it out to their seatmates.
Keep in mind Alaskan flight attendants also serve as moose police!
Note: Many laws, enacted years ago, remain on
the books even though their purposes may have
faded into obscurity.

Rene Pellerin’s Corner:
Relay services are very important for many of us,
including the DeafBlind.
The most common type of relay DeafBlind people use is IP Relay.
Unfortunately, several companies have dropped IP Relay services.
The most recent announcement came from Purple IP Relay, which
will close its IP Relay service on November 14.
That will leave us DeafBlind people with Sprint IP Relay. No other
choices will be available!
These companies blame the FCC! How can DeafBlind people be ensured a
choice of IP Relay services?
Rene’s show business started in year 2010 and it focuses on the
Deaf-Blind.
