Top stories about the deaf:
Shoba Rosy, a deaf Singaporean woman, will
be one of the 40 dancers at a big event –
MGR the Legend II that is well attended.
A memorial service for pioneering deaf actress
& model Audree Norton is taking place at the
Klopping Theater on the campus of California
School for the Deaf at Fremont on May 20, 2015
at 2:30 P.M. The public is invited, and in
lieu of flowers, donations are requested to
be made to Gallaudet University in her memory.
Who will be the next Gallaudet president, let
alone who are the candidates? The Presidential
Search Advisory Committee pretty much said
to be patient. It, however does not stop
much speculation from the Deaf Community!
Maryland School for the Deaf‘s Work to Learn
Program has been praised in a local newspaper
story. Students are placed in internship jobs
with local businesses.
In the Philippines, Senator Miriam Defensor
Santiago has submitted a motion to provide
interpreters for the deaf in the courts.

DEAF FACIAL EXPRESSIONS VS HEARING FACIAL EXPRESSIONS
Do deaf people read facial expressions better than
hearing people?
A group of deaf students in Utah is having a contest,
called “”Can you Lie To Me?”.
It is about trying to read facial expressions. DeafDigest
editor thinks deaf people read faces better than hearing.

A SIGN LANGUAGE WILL DIE
A sign language in one part of USA will die in few years.
It is the Hawaii Sign Language (HSL).
HSL is very different from ASL – and it was used for a long
time in Hawaii. Why will it die?
Because only 40 deaf Hawaiians are fluent with it and all
of them are 80 years old. When the last HSL user dies, the language
will die.
Why cannot HSL continue? Because the younger deaf Hawaiians use
ASL, not HSL.
It is always sad when a language dies.

Rene Pellerin’s Corner:
House cleaning
I clean the kitchen, the bathroom, the mudroom and the office.
When sweeping, I do my best to collect all the dirt.
When mopping, I make sure I don’t miss a spot!
However, when I put rugs down after mopping,
I get down on my hands and knees to be sure it is in place correctly.
I can feel that dirt is still on the floor! How is that possible?
That brings me to a question:
Do the robo sweeper and mop do a better job than a blind man?
