A FRUSTRATION WITH A HOTEL TV REMOTE

DeafDigest editor stayed at a hotel during his vacation.

He wanted to watch TV so tried to set up captions.

He looked at the remote. It was a very big remote. He

spent a long time looking for cc symbol on one of these

remote buttons. He looked hard and could not find it.

Trying again, he looked and finally found it on the remote.

The cc symbol was so tiny that it was so easy to

overlook it!

Very frustrating.

Rene Pellerin’s corner:

Since 2007, the needs assessment data collected from DeafBlind people

in the State of Vermont has listed SSP services as number one.  It’s been a long wait.

The slump in the economy and the impacts of Tropical Storm Irene did

not help.

This year we pushed harder for our needs with the State Legislature.

A few days ago I was at a meeting that included the State

Transportation Agency, one of the departments which oversees public transportation.

They had a grant cancellation and want to give provision of an SSP

service a try!

If all goes well, SSP services will start July 1st!

Downside, it is a one year pilot project.  It is one time funding.

Nonetheless, this is a step in the right direction and will help us

collect data and information for next year’s legislative session!
