Top stories about the deaf:
Tom Wheeler has been nominated by Obama to become the
next FCC boss. What are his views on our needs (captions,
telecommunications, emergency 911 texts, etc). Hard to
say. His background is lobbyist for these cable and
wireless companies. These providers have been notorious
for opposing our needs. Is he going to switch his
leopard colors and advocate on our behalf?
Two years ago Eastern North Carolina School for the Deaf
was on the chopping block. The community rallied to save
the school. The Wilson, NC community is having a celebration,
not forgetting the turn of the events that saved the school.
Apple has promised captions on iTunes Movies and TV Shows.
The target date for captioning on everything is June 2015.
Shortage of lipreading classes in Wales? A newspaper article
pointed it out, saying that late-deafened senior citizens
are being placed in jeopardy due to lack of lipreading skills!
Anjela Kairuki, the Tanzania Deputy Minister for Constitution
and Legal Affairs, has been pushing deaf women to assert
their basic rights in social, political and economic activities.

WATCHING HEARING PEOPLE WHILE THEY TALK
You watch some hearing people while they are talking
for a long time with someone.
You may notice something. There are hearing people that

And there are hearing people that move their hands all

Wondering if it is easy for deaf to gesture with a hearing

WON’T ADMIT DISCRIMINATION
There are many newspaper stories of successful deaf people.
They are oral and do not know sign language.
In many of these stories, there is not one word about
discrimination.
Are these successful deaf people refusing to admit or
hiding their discrimination?
DeafDigest editor thinks they hide their many years of
discrimination!
