This just in -

It probably helped that Russia’s Putin did some lobbying

because Valery Rukhledev has been elected president of the

International Committee of Sports for the Deaf, defeating

two challengers including one American.

Top stories about the deaf:

Thinkso’s 2013 Give a Brand! has awarded the

Deaf Abused Women’s Network with a pro bono

branding. What this means is that DAWN will be

getting a professional make-over in an effort

to get high profile attention of its services

on behalf of deaf women that need assistance.

An abused deaf victim who was not provided with

an interpreter cost the city of Portland, Oregon

$51,500 in damages. The city has then agreed

to provide interpreters for the deaf in the future.

Finally after a year of waiting, the Virginia School

for the Deaf and the Blind now has a new principal.

It is long time teacher Pat Trice, who has a masters

from Gallaudet.

As a child Claudia Gordon came to USA from Jamaica,

and enrolled at Lexington School for the Deaf, becoming

a basketball star. Years later she is now a recent Obama

appointee, advising him on the needs of the disabled.

We now can add Hungary to one more nation offering

video relay services for the deaf. It only just started

this week.

DEAF LOST IN FRANCE; HEARING LOST IN FRANCE

Learning the bus system, the metro subway system, the railroad

Which is better – to be deaf in France and to depend on eyes to

ears to follow directions?

No difference. Hearing people get lost in France; same as with the

I attended a camp in California for a week.

It was for DeafBlind people and was just south of Yosemite!

Beautiful camp, great food and great people!

Folks came all the way from Holland, Belgium, Canada and of course America!

There were games designed for DeafBlind which were adapted from well known games.

One simple game was “musical chairs” using balloons!

Instead of walking around chairs, we passed balloons.

It’s a safe way to play this game and we felt the loud drum to “sit”!

There were several other adapted games developed by the founder of this
