Top stories about the deaf:

The Trinidad and Tobago government had to make

a public speech at the last minute to discuss

an issue. A deaf activist asked the government

to find an interpreter at the last minute.

This request was turned down! Yes, this activist

is very angry about it.

Anjana (full name not known) has been praised as

one of the top dancers on a TV talent show program

in India

Aspinall Ink is a emerging new business in Great

Britain. The owner, Angie Aspinall, is deaf but

made great use of her media skills to bring

business to her web site. It was written up in a

British newspaper.

A know-nothing deaf client and a know-nothing hearing

attorney? Put them together in a job discrimination

case – and it ends up in a disaster. This was the

discussion on one of these job discrimination web sites.

A web site lamented the fact that Gabon, a small African

nation, has been left out of the loop when it comes to

World Federation of the Deaf, African deaf politics and

the Deaflympics. For some reason, the deaf of Gabon

just doesn’t get involved in anything beyond their

national borders.

HOW MANY HEARING PEOPLE REALLY INTERESTED IN THE DEAF

How many hearing people are really interested

in the deaf?

DeafDigest editor thinks maybe it is one

hearing person out of 100 hearing people.

That means 99 percent of hearing people

INTERPRETER EMPLOYMENT AD

A college posted an employment ad for an

interpreter.

It said – interpret for free in exchange

for free credits in a college course.

This is not right. Interpreters cannot

remember the professors’ lectures – because

they are busy interpreting the next word,

and the next word, and the next word –

and cannot remember everything!

Rene Pellerin’s Corner:

Snow is piling up in Vermont, I have been busy clearing snow.

We heat our house with a wood furnace, and wood is stacked up

in our backyard.

I needed to make a path from the wood pile to the side of the house.

Using a snow blower worked great! It does a good job making the
