Top stories about the deaf:
The National Association of State Agencies of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing has a
slate of officers as follows:
President: Steve Florio, Rhode Island
Vice President: Sherri Collins, Arizona
Secretary: Jan Withers, North Carolina
Treasurer: Virginia Moore, Kentucky
this organization meets up during each NAD conference
Chen Kun-hua, a deaf resident of Changhua, Taiwan,
was honored by the Changhua County Government for
overcoming his deafness. He was a popular roadside
vendor of sausages. People said his sausages were
what drew customers to his roadside stand.
Advocates of TV captions in Connecticut are saying
that state governor candidate Republican candidate Tom Foley may lose the election. He did not caption
his TV commercials, thus missing out on the deaf
market whereas the Democratic candidate has
captioned his ads!
Rhonda Sivarajah, a mother of a deaf child, is
the chairperson of the Anoka County Board of Commissioners in Minnesota. She is running for
a seat on House of Representatives. While she
is an underdog, the deaf will stand much to
gain if she wins. She said her son’s deafness
is the reason why she has been advocating
deaf issues.
Going on right now is the 41 Chess Olympiad
(hearing) in Norway. This event involves
participating nations’ top chess players.
One of the teams is a special entry – the International Chess Committee of the Deaf “all-star” team consisting of world’s
best deaf chess players!

HEARING PARENTS NOT CARE ABOUT THE DEAF?
Few years ago in Ontario, the provincial government
wanted to close their 3 residential schools for the deaf.
The government hosted town hall meetings in these
three cities. In one city just one parent showed up.
Do these parents care about education of their deaf
children?

3D is very hot in the computer world. Everyone wants
