A STARBUCKS TRICK WITHOUT INSULTING THE DEAF
At Starbucks, each order is written on the paper coffee cup
with the customer’s first name. This is important because Starbucks
is often crowded with a lot of confusion
In some Starbucks places, there is a trick to giving the right
coffee cup to the deaf person without insulting him. When a
deaf person places his order, his name is not written on the
paper cup. Many deaf people love coffee but do not speak well.
Starbucks knows that the deaf person will be insulted if
the cup is written deaf or even deaf-mute or even deaf-dumb!

DEAF PEOPLE HATE FOOD TRUCKS
More big cities have many food trucks parked next to
each other in downtowns.
Almost all of these food trucks sell very delicious
lunch meals.
But almost all deaf people hate it? These food trucks
are owned by immigrants that struggle with English language.
And also almost all food trucks have signs that are
posted on the side. If a deaf person points out to a meal
choice, the chef has to poke his head way out of the
window to look at the menu choice.
Too much of a hassle for the deaf.

COMMENTS FROM A CART OPERATOR – continuing series
When you are working with a CART provider in a classroom, one thing
you need to remember is that CART providers do not know everything
about all subjects.
They don’t have the knowledge of the instructor about the subject.
All of the unusual terms, words, and names that come up in a class
need to be added to a CART provider’s computer dictionary in order
for them to translate properly.
If CART providers are unfamiliar with names or terms, they may attempt
to fingerspell them, but if the CART provider doesn’t know how the words
are spelled, the words will probably not come up on the screen correctly.
When handouts are being passed out in a class, sometimes the CART provider
is skipped, almost as if everyone just assumes that the CART provider
already knows everything about the course.
If the professor mentions Geisteswissenschaften and Naturwissenschaften
in an anthropology class, it would be very difficult for the CART provider
to fingerspell these terms if he or she had never heard of them before.
The CART provider needs access to the same information as the students
because sometimes he or she is learning right along with the students.
If the CART provider cannot understand or does not know what is being said,
it cannot be communicated to the consumer.

etc, share these pet peeves. You may laugh or cry)

News of the Week – Looking Back 10 Years Ago:
Word has circulated that the Microsoft Windows XP

True or not true? A state relay administrator
looked into this issue went into discussions with

Said the relay administrator “it may be dependent

Northwest Georgia’s picturesque Vann’s Valley is the home of the Georgia
School for the Deaf, Georgia’s only residential school serving Deaf and
Hard-of-Hearing students. GSD was established in 1846 on the grounds of
the Hearn Academy by one of its teachers, O. P. Fannin. A log cabin and a
$5000 legislative grant began a more than 160-year-long tradition of
service to children across the state. GSD was the eleventh residential
school for the Deaf established in the United States. GSD has an
expansive campus of 480 acres in the small community of Cave Spring. The
relationship between Cave Spring and GSD is unique because many residents
and business owners are able to communicate with sign language.
Below are vacancies for the upcoming school year:
