The annual BIO International Convention – being held this year in San Francisco from June 6-9 -- is expected to attract more than 15,000 delegates from the biotech and pharmaceutical sectors. Once again, the province of Ontario will have a major presence at BIO, with its exhibitors representing some of the world’s leading research centres, universities, technology incubators, and biotech start-ups.

The City of Mississauga
Located within Ontario’s Greater Toronto Area (GTA), Mississauga is a well-connected, global leader in the life sciences sector. Home to more than 400 life sciences companies and employing over 25,000, Mississauga is Canada’s second-largest life sciences cluster. With close ties to educational institutions, industry and a supportive ICT sector, Canada’s sixth most populous city offers an environment where businesses can collaborate, innovate and grow.

Clinical Trials Ontario
Clinical Trials Ontario (CTO) is an independent not-for-profit that works collaboratively with the clinical trials community to leverage Ontario’s clinical research capabilities, which draws upon nearly half of Canada’s clinical research personnel and is supported by the only ‘top five’ academic research laboratory located outside of the United States or the United Kingdom. Forty-eight hospital/university sites across Ontario have joined the CTO system since it was established with the support of the Government of Ontario in 2012, to attract clinical trial investment to the province, while supporting the highest ethical and quality standards. All ten of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies are already performing trials in Ontario.

Fight Against Cancer Innovation Trust (FACIT)/ The Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR)
The OICR is developing innovative cancer therapies while partnering with FACIT to expand awareness of Ontario's oncology expertise, network and assets. Mirroring the complexity of the disease, translational cancer research is evolving toward more multi-institutional, collaborative efforts and this is reflected by OICR's vast network. OICR continues to cultivate a growing number of high profile partnerships and transactions completed by their commercialization partner, FACIT.

Institute for Management and Innovation at University of Toronto Mississauga
The University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM)'s Institute for Management and Innovation (IMI) is leveraging the knowledge and expertise of faculty, staff and community partners to support Mississauga's renowned life sciences sector. Ontario Brain Institute
The Ontario Brain Institute (OBI) is a provincially funded not-for-profit research centre. OBI carries out a variety of initiatives, with the underlying goal to improve the brain health of Ontario's citizens while developing the province into a world-leader in brain research, commercialization and care. Its research programs focus on cerebral palsy, epilepsy, depression, neurodevelopmental disorders like autism, and neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer's disease.
