Acts of Arriving is an 8-hour, outdoor, traveling, multi-site performance project exploring and connecting specific Metro D.C. neighborhoods by examining the meaning and emergence of community through individual and collective engagement. The work combines movement with text, live music, and unique audience participation as an entry to delve into questions of “where are we from?” and “where are we now?” in real time. ImaginAsia: Archaeological Adventures

In this workshop, families take a focused, self-guided tour of Unearthing Arabia: The Archaeological Adventures of Wendell Phillips. A studio project in the classroom will allow participants to practice the same observational skills used in the galleries. For children ages 8 to 14 with adult companions. ***Special Event on Saturday, 1:00 pm - International Archaeology Day - In celebration of International Archaeology Day and Unearthing Arabia: The Archaeological Adventures of Wendell Phillips, discover what it’s like to work on an archaeological dig in the remote deserts of Arabia. At 1:15 pm, join docents in the exhibition to read original records and see treasures from an actual expedition in the 1950s. At 2 pm, families are invited to explore the exhibition and then participate in a hands-on learning project in the ImaginAsia classroom. At 3:15 pm, meet archaeologist Zaydoon Zaid, who has led expeditions in Yemen and was an advisor for Unearthing Arabia.

It may never be easier to get up close and personal with the musical talent of Washington than at the second annual Adams Morgan PorchFest when the front porches of homes and a few local businesses are transformed into intimate performance spaces to be enjoyed by anyone who happens to stroll by. Inspired by similar PorchFest events across the country aimed at creating a family friendly, neighborhood-based alternative to the nightclub music scene, Adams Morgan’s version will span an eclectic range of styles from Brazilian, Irish and jazz, to indie rock, children’s music and even Egyptian Nubian folkloric.
