$10 Sharp’s at Waterford Farm

Brookeville, Maryland

Corn Maze Admission for Two and Two Sugar Pumpkins

Take an excursion to this quaint farm on Jennings Chapel Road in Brookeville, which features more than 18 acres filled with ripe and plump pumpkins scattered throughout the field:

• $10 ($20 value) for two tickets to the corn maze and two sugar pumpkins

• $20 ($40 value) for four tickets to the corn maze and four sugar pumpkins

• $6 for $12 to spend on pumpkins

A Classic Maze with a Few New Twists

The theme of this year’s corn maze is Black Bears and Coyotes in Maryland: Cut into the shape of the two animals, the family-friendly, seven-acre corn maze is dotted with stations where kids can learn all about these fascinating creatures, and adults might learn a thing or two, too. Answer true or false questions for directions to help you navigate your way through the maze. Choose the right one and you’ll continue down the right path, answer incorrectly and you’ll hit a dead end. No need to panic, just turn around and get back on the right path. Before you leave, be sure to pick up your sugar pumpkins — small pumpkins perfect for cooking or decorating.

Visitors should note that Jumbo’s Pumpkin Patch will not be opening until September 20th.

Jumbo’s Pumpkin Patch

When leaves start changing colors and floating on cool autumn breezes, Jumbo’s Pumpkin Patch opens its gates to become a flurry of family fall activity. Visitors hop on a hayride that takes them to the 30-acre pumpkin patch, where scores of bulbous gourds lie ripe for the taking. Also accessible by hayride, a sprawling corn maze tests families’ navigational skills and/or willingness to eat their way back home. Back at the farm, kids hop on pony rides and mini-wagon rides or try on a new face from a face painter. A petting zoo offers visitors close encounters with friendly farm animals, from rabbits and sheep to pigs and cows. The patch and attractions are located on the grounds of the Huffer Family Farm, which was purchased by the family in 1870. Seven generations later, the Huffers still cultivate the land for crops—when they’re not cultivating corn mazes and armies of really nice scarecrows.

Oregon Dairy

Oregon Dairy is more than just a farm—it’s an experience. In addition to functioning as a dairy farm, the Hurst family’s sprawling property also features a supermarket, a bakery, and a restaurant serving Pennsylvania Dutch cuisine. The supermarket sells everything from milk to deli sandwiches and shrimp trays to bring to parties. In the restaurant, you can sate your hunger right away with traditional chicken and waffles or more exotic peach-mango tilapia. The bakery’s gourmet scones and pumpkin pie add a sweet end to lunch or dinner.

For more hands-on fun, a raft of family-friendly activities take place at the farm throughout the year. Tours whisk families and school groups through the farm on a tractor-pulled wagon, taking them to explore the milking facility and sample some of the luscious ice cream made on site. In the fall, visitors can celebrate the season by getting lost in a corn maze or picking a pumpkin to decorate with the face of your favorite cow.

Maize Quest

Hugh the Maze Master and the team at Maize Quest Fun Park believes that mazes are a great metaphor for life: we’re all on a journey, sometimes we feel lost, but, through it all, we persist in the face of defeat. For the last 15 years, Maize Quest has followed this philosophy, evolving from a single-attraction corn maze to a full-scale seasonal fun park with more than 25 attractions. The maze’s theme changes each year, with past labyrinths honoring Wild West gunslingers, Egyptian pharaohs, and prehistoric dinosaurs.

Before or after navigating the corn-walled corridors, visitors can entertain themselves at other stations such as the bamboo forest or the cow train—a line of cow-themed cars pulled by a tractor or a team of steam-powered steers. Maize Quest holds birthday parties year-round, with groups blowing out candles in both the indoor party room and outdoor event space. The maze is also open for events for large groups such as scout troops, youth groups, and vacationing scarecrows.

$45 for Admission to Busch Gardens Williamsburg

Including Howl-O-Scream Admission

(Up to $75 Value)

Busch Gardens Williamsburg, Virginia

$45 for one ticket to Busch Gardens Williamsburg, including Howl-O-Scream (up to $75 value)

Valid on select dates between September 12 and October 24, 2014. Not valid for use on October 11, 18, 25, or 26.

Busch Gardens opens at 10 a.m.; Howl-O-Scream begins at 6 p.m. Parents and guardians should consider the park’s elevated scare factor when deciding to visit Busch Gardens with young children during Howl-O-Scream.

Howl-O-Scream

There is a song… they say that it curses all who hear it. And if you venture into Busch Gardens Williamsburg during Howl-O-Scream, you may not escape the curse. Haunted houses await at every turn. Terrifying creatures swarm through the streets, popping out from every corner. Your only sanctuary? The park’s famous thrill rides, which hurtle screaming riders through darkness at speeds up to 75 miles per hour. Parents and guardians should consider the park’s elevated scare factor when deciding to visit Busch Gardens with young children during Howl-O-Scream. Because at the stroke of 6 p.m., the ghouls and haunts come out to play and Busch Gardens becomes a seriously scary place.

Every year, Howl-O-Scream transforms Busch Gardens Williamsburg into one of the area’s most beloved Halloween attractions. Even if the rides and the haunted houses don’t get you, the creatures in the dark will be there to block your every escape. Among those creatures: a terrifyingly talented Jack the Ripper, who commands a crew of skeleton backup dancers during the Monster Stomp on Ripper Row live show.

Busch Gardens Williamsburg

Anticipation. That’s arguably the most heart-pounding thing about Griffon, a towering dive coaster and one of the premiere attractions at Busch Gardens Williamsburg. Suspense builds right to the top of its 205-foot hill, which sends riders over a cliff-like 90-degree drop. The coaster hurtles down at 75 miles per hour, before it levels out at a splash zone. Beyond these big-kid rides, Busch Gardens Williamsburg caters to youngsters with its KIDsiderate Attractions, such as the Land of Dragons and Sesame Street Forest of Fun. The latter surrounds little ones in playgrounds and kid-friendly rides, along with chances to meet with Sesame Street characters.

For even more entertainment, Busch Gardens Williamsburg also boasts multiple venues for both indoor and outdoor shows such as Night Beats, a musical review featuring glitzy ghouls. Each area of the park also offers shopping and dining to match its region’s theme. The theme park also includes several exhibits where nature lovers can learn about animals such as hedgehogs, macaw parrots, and gray wolves.
