Become a foster parent for a homeless cat or dog. The Socorro Animal Shelter is looking for homes to provide pets the opportunity to develop physically and/or socially, through loving attention, to prepare them for adoption. Call Juliet at 835-3103 or Stephanie, foster coordinator, at 480-2042.

Tienda de Segunda Thrifty, 400 Spring St., accepts donations of furniture, clothing, kitchen appliances and more. Thrifty cannot accept broken or dirty furniture, and has no facilities to wash clothing so donations need to be clean. All workers are volunteers, and sales revenues are donated to senior programs in Socorro County. The store is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

The city has teamed with the Socorro Rotary Club to maintain a recycling program for white paper. In order to participate in this “green” project just do the following: Separate your white paper products in a separate box or basket, take your box to any of the following locations and find a large blue bin with the imprint of the Rotary Club/Socorro Chamber of Commerce. Blue bins are located in the county managers office, county clerk (in the courthouse), Socorro Public Library, the county annex building, Socorro High School and Cottonwood Charter school, and on Tech campus in Brown Hall, Fidel Center second floor, Cramer, Wells Jones Halls and the NRAO reception area.
