Engineer Internship opportunity for the Summer of 2016 is available on the Transmission & Distribution (T&D;) Asset Management Team.
**_Qualifications:_**
The successful candidate should be a student pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering or Industrial Engineering. Students with related majors will also be considered. An academic standing of Sophomore level status or higher is preferred. Candidates with a strong academic background, organized work habits, exceptional attention to detail, organization and presentation skills, and proficiency with Microsoft Office Products (Excel, Power Point and Word) are strongly preferred. Candidates with previous experience in Standards, NESC requirements and/or circuit patrols is preferred. Documented abiltiy to work effectively and cooperatively with others is a plus.
**_Primary Duties:_**
The intern may be assigned projects and/or tasks associated with the following efforts:
Work with Standards & Codes Engineers on the following
* Data analysis
* Material secifications
* Construction standards
* Loading calculations
* Quality control/quality assurance issues
* National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) circuit patrols
* Equipment &/or failure analysis
* Field surveys
* SQL querie
Projects will involve entering or reviewing data in MS Access, Excel and Visual Studio, plus the use of multiple internal computer systems (GIS, WMIS, OMS, email, etc.). Field work (working in teams) on NESC circuit patrols, combined with office work (maps, data entry, multiple computer systems, etc.), provide a good variety and mix of projects.
The intern may also be expected to complete additional assignments as determined by his or her supervisor.
**_Internship Philosophy:_**
An internship at IPL continues a student’s collegiate experience at a large electric utility. It includes opportunities to apply theories learned in the classroom to professional real-world situations.
**_Academic Credit:_**
If academic credit for the work experience is desired it is the intern’s responsibility to provide appropriate paperwork, interviews and evaluations to the supervisor in a timely manner for completion and verification.
**_Working Conditions:_**
Working conditions vary. Conditions include indoor work in clean, well lighted, air-conditioned, heated and ventilated surroundings as well as distribution sites. These sites may have high temperatures and humidity; may involve outdoor work observation; require the use of personal protective equipment or special clothing. Job may require some driving (company vehicle).
