The Instructional Design Specialist will collaborate with faculty members to design and develop pedagogically sound online and blended courses, programs, and other technology-enhanced instructional materials utilizing strong technical, project management, and coordination skills to ensure goals and timelines are met. They will develop and lead faculty and staff professional development activities in areas of instructional design and instructional technology as well as research and evaluate new and emerging technologies and instructional design theories. The Instructional Design Specialist must be able to convey complex technical information through summarizing and simplification techniques in simple, clear language appropriate to the audience; be a self-motivated worker who works effectively independently and as part of a team; leads and manages projects, and gathers consensus. The Instructional Design Specialist will provide recommendations on the strategic, tactical and operational issues associated with the integration of new instructional technology to support the online and blended courses.? Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in instructional design, instructional technology or a closely related field Two years of instructional design experience. Two years of full-time experience working directly with faculty in a post-secondary educational institution supporting online learning initiatives Experience creating digital environments for learning such as discussion forums, activities or assessments Experience creating content with web authoring tools such as Adobe Captivate, Articulate, or Raptivity Experience working with an academic learning management system (LMS) Effective written communication skills Preferred Qualifications: A master’s degree or higher in instructional design, instructional technology, or a closely related field Excellent oral communication skills. Demonstrated successful collaboaration with various constituents. Excellent presentation skills Effective interpersonal skills Experience supporting the Sakai LMS Proficient graphic and visual design skills utilizing software such as Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator Proficiency in the use of HTML and CSS Experience with video capture and hosting Familiarity with Quality Matters Experience with planning and executing projects and multiple priorities Experience interpreting and applying copyright and fair use guidelines in the context of eLearning and multimedia design Proven knowledge of accessibility compliance issues including section 508 ADA compliance Experience working with screen capture programs like TechSmith Camtasia or Snagit Demonstrated understanding of instructional design theory, principles, and practices.
