SURVICE Engineering seeks a Materials Scientist/Engineer to provide technical support for the basic center operations of the Defense Systems Information Analysis Center (www.dsiac.org), which is operated by SURVICE for the Department of Defense (DoD). The DSIAC Materials Scientist / Engineer will utilize available information repositories, education, personal experience, a subject matter expert network, and other resources to answer technical inquiries from the U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Government, and the supporting industrial community. This position will also support DSIAC current awareness initiatives, customer outreach campaigns, the quarterlyDSIAC Journal, materials-related product and database development, and other basic center operations activities.
This fulltime position supports DSIAC's Advanced Materials functional area of responsibility, which includes, but is not limited to: organic materials and organo-metallic matrix composites; material and component technologies; self-assembly of microstructures for advanced materials; advanced ceramics and ceramic composites; advanced composites for electronic, structural, and thermal applications; materials development, manufacturing, and testing; processing and fabrication methods, including repair/remanufacturing of metals and composites; energetic materials and munitions technologies; non- destructive evaluation (NDE), testing and inspection; corrosion prevention and mitigation; weapons system life monitoring and extension; thermal controls and batteries; and nanotechnology.
Qualifications
B.S. in Materials Engineering or Science.
Minimum 10 years of experience in materials science or engineering. The ideal candidate will possess practical experience and knowledge in the research, development, and application of advanced and composite materials for aerospace, defense, and commercial applications, as well as general familiarity with the materials manufacturing industrial base and the research and development of new, emerging, and novel materials for potential defense applications.
U.S. citizenship required; must be able to pass a Department of Defense background check.
Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. Familiarity with the DoD Information Analysis Center (DoD IAC) program is a plus.
